Personal apology from John Hopoate

Manly league player John Hopoate has personally apologised to a ballboy, who he abused with foul language during his side's victory over the Warriors last Sunday.

Hopoate lashed out when Jamel Thompson refused to throw him the ball.

The touch judge had asked for the ball to be thrown onto the field, but Thompson placed it on the sideline, which was the right thing to do.
Section 1.2 of the NRL Operations manual states the ballboy must place the ball on the sideline and cannot under any circumstances throw the ball directly to the players.

Hopoate has now phoned the young boy and has complimented him for knowing the rules.

May I add to this article. This is a ridiculous media beat up of Hoppa, and a lot of journos need to have a long hard look at themselves. Hoppa is a great footballer and he should be left to get on with it - Daniel
