Dual international Andrew Walker has rejected an offer to play with the Queensland Reds next year and will take up a two-year contract with a French rugby club next month.

Walker, who was banned for two years from both rugby codes after testing positive to cocaine while playing league for Manly in August 2004, will resurrect his career with French second-division side Gaillac when his suspension ends.

Walker and his manager Mark Thompson had been in talks with Reds coach Eddie Jones and it was widely believed the former Brumbies star would be heading to Queensland next season.

But Walker has passed up the opportunity to play Super 14 rugby and accepted the Gaillac offer, believed to be worth between $150,000 and $200,000 a season.

It's understood the Reds were not close to matching that offer, but Walker said it was the lifestyle and travel opportunities the French deal would afford him and his family that swayed his decision.
