WITH his future at the Sea Eagles secure for the next two seasons, Manly centre Steve Matai will be desperate to show the Warriors what they missed out on when the Aucklanders come to Brookvale Oval on Saturday night.

It’s a must-win, round-24 NRL clash at Brookvale Oval with both teams still in contention for a top-four berth.

Manly fullback William Hopoate is in severe doubt, battling a hamstring strain.

Harbord United junior Michael Oldfield, who made a fine debut for the Sea Eagles in Monday night’s loss to the Dragons, is again likely to start on the wing with Michael Robertson at fullback.

With a home semi-final still on the radar, the seventh-placed Sea Eagles desperately require a win.

And it will be Matai at the forefront, joining his skipper Jamie Lyon in a centre combination which is considered one of the best in the business.

“We need to win this one and I’ll be doing my best to ensure we do,” Matai, who fielded an offer from the Warriors before agreeing to stay at Manly, said.

“The Warriors are a terrific side and I’m looking forward to coming up against them.”

Manly will head into the clash wary of the Warriors who arrive with a fantastic record at the ground, having won five of eight games.

Replacement forward Joe Galuvao said ensuring their defence is in order will help build the foundation towards victory and a possible top-four finish.

“We have to rectify the points we conceded against the Dragons,” he said.

“It’s jam-packed on the table at the moment, we can’t control what other teams do. The Warriors are a pretty physical side and we are looking forward to this challenge.

“The key for us is to make the top eight, first and foremost, then the top four.”
