IT'S never easy fighting back when you have a black mark next to your name but Manly forward Anthony Watmough has resurrected a representative career many feared was on the rocks. The tough-as-teak backrower was Manly's leading metre man (144.7m) in the club's NRL premiership-winning season as he continued his redemption after being dumped from the NSW Origin side after just one game in 2005 because of a poor attitude.Current Kangaroo coach Ricky Stuart

PREMIERSHIP-winning Manly coach Des Hasler last night predicted new recruit Tony Williams could fill the sizeable vacancy left by the club's departing champion, Steve Menzies.
Hasler said Williams, a winger at Parramatta, could also play centre, back-rower or come off the bench next year - similar to Menzies.
Williams walked out on the Eels and could now become a sensation at Brookvale.
"He has that X-factor and has so much potential," Hasler said.
"Tony can off-load and will be a real impact player. I reckon he can turn a match.
"He has versatility. That will benefit the side."

The Manly NRL club’s frustration at the continued delay of the proposed Stockland Park stadium has officially hit boiling point.
Manly CEO Grant Mayer admitted the club’s partnership with the Sunshine Coast Sea Eagles “may be over before one sod is turned” if the facility is not given the official green light within two years.
The NRL grand finalists entered an agreement with the Coast club late last year.
As part of the deal, the Coast’s Queensland Cup outfit, which set to debut in the competition next year, will act as Manly’s feeder club.
However, Mr Mayer revealed the partnership would be placed in jeopardy if the stadium’s construction continued to remain on the backburner.

FOLLOWING his selection yesterday in the Australian World Cup team, NRL premier Manly is facing a battle to retain cult hero David Williams when he comes off contract at the end of 2009.
The 22-year-old winger capped a remarkable season yesterday when he was selected in Australia's 24-man World Cup squad.
The "Wolfman" is one of six of Manly's grand final heroes chosen in the side.
Williams was recruited this season from the Hills District club in the Parramatta junior competition on a $55,000 minimum-wage contract plus match payments.
However, following his Australian selection, Williams's price tag is set to triple.

Part of the astonishing resilience of rugby league comes from the passion and ownership of its tribal supporters. For these tribesmen (me included) the support of one’s team goes well beyond a passing interest in weekly results.
Manly Warringah has become a part of my identity over the years. The club name, emblem, colours and club culture interwoven into soul which means that there is an incredible emotional investment in their successes and failures.
The extent of my investment became immensely apparent to me on Sunday night, jittering nervously under my “we are the silvertails” banner, fingernails chewed until my fingers bled, my two sons beside me sucking shirts and pensive.
