Manly Daily MANLY second-rower Anthony Watmough has admitted he was embarrassed by his form at the back-end of last season after coasting through an injury lay-off. Watmough was one of the standout performers in the first half of the season, leading the Dally M ratings and winning State of Origin selection before a knee injury cut into his year. The 22-year-old back-rower returned late in the season but failed to make a real impact as the Sea Eagles slid out of the finals race after one week. Watmough is desperate to make amends when Manly kick off their 2006 campaign in March. "Some of the performances we put together as a team were embarrassing and my form in some of those games was embarrassing," he admitted yesterday. "I didn't work as hard as I should have when I got injured and I paid the price. "I thought I was invincible and it didn't turn out that way. "I won't make the same mistake again. I think I will be better for having gone through that period." A wiser and fitter Watmough says the memory of those last few matches are acting as personal motivation during Manly's gruelling pre-season training sessions. "I'm training pretty hard and I want to improve on last season," he declared. "The first part of last year was good but I've got to go out there and deliver again. "I won't be taking anything for granted." Coach Des Hasler expects Watmough's standing in the game to grow even further in 2006. "Anthony has shown what he is capable of and he's only going to improve," Hasler said. "He is working on his game all the time and I have no doubt he's in for another big year." * Long-time Sea Eagle supporter and official Kerry Sibraa will be honoured with life membership at next week's annual meeting of the football club. Sibraa is a respected board member who worked hard to ensure the Sea Eagles enjoyed a smooth transition to privatisation while protecting the rights of members.
