SEA Eagles winger David Williams is pleading for Manly fans to show patience towards rookie half Kieran Foran ahead of his NRL initiation in the No. 7 jumper.

Williams said the Sea Eagles have “absolute faith” Foran can comfortably fill Matt Orford’s shoes this year.

The popular flyer said Foran’s smooth transition into first grade last year will ensure success.

Foran heads a new-look Manly backline, which includes giant utility Tony Williams in the centres.

David Williams said Foran will find his feet, but admits it may take some weeks before the backline find their groove in 2010.

“It will take time, it always does when you have two (new) guys playing those positions together,” Williams said as he visited Royal Far West School in Manly on Thursday.

“But Kieran is very lucky to have a guy like ‘Killer’ (Jamie Lyon) on his outside.

“He is very experienced and will be an enormous help.

“They are slowly clicking at training, the understanding is getting better each day.

“The (Wests) Tigers will be a good first-up test for them and the team.”

Williams said Foran’s debut year in 2009 will give him plenty of confidence to succeed this campaign.

“He came in last year (against Canberra) and within minutes looked the part, we all have no dramas with him playing seven,” he said.

“Foz (Foran) then went onto play finals footy and also a Test with New Zealand in the Four Nations over in the United Kingdom.

“I can’t see him being overawed.”

The NSW winger also believes Tony Williams is poised for a “massive” year anywhere in the team.

“He is bigger and faster than last year, which is great news for us,” he said.

“A few things didn’t go his way last year which hurt him at the time.

“He is expecting big things from himself, he has mapped out some serious goals and has looked good from our first training session.

“Once he gets a few games under his belt he will be a very dangerous proposition, I am very glad to see him in our team.”
