''I knew what you wanted to talk about so I cleared it with the boys first,'' Perry said. ''They are actually joking about the stories turning up at training. Brett's words to me were very simple: 'I'm not going anywhere'. In fact, we are about to start negotiations with Brett to tie him up beyond 2012. I am confident we will be able to do that and it would be great if he played his whole career at this club.''
What about a clause in Glenn's contract? The word is a payment has not been met but it's unclear if that payment was written in his contract. ''Glenn's contract is watertight and he has no clause and he is not going anywhere. He is with the club until the end of 2014. Both the boys have said that they are excited by the new era under Geoff Toovey.''
As for rival clubs - especially a move to the Roosters - word from the Roosters' inner circle is they have no genuine interest in the brothers. And the reason? They are not sure they want to fork out top dollar for Brett because of concerns about his ongoing leg issues and his age. He will be in huge demand next year. Brett was never going to jump from the final season of the contract - he signed for smaller money in the initial years - but will get $500,000 in 2012.

BRETT and Glenn Stewart are laughing at suggestions they intend to leave Manly and want their fans to know they have no plans to join a rival team.

Don't know about you lot, but this has been a great start to my day. I know Weidler's not real popular on here, but, who cares, this is what I've been waiting to hear. Pity we couldn't get a statement from the Stewies to avoid the speculation sooner.

I hear what you are saying Mick. I think the difference with this story though is that Danny has quoted Perry opposed to a 'source from the club'.
So, for today, I'm going to believe it, so then I can have a good day. |

It directly quotes Perry and the fact he spoke with the boys to make a statement to them. Far more palatable than 'suggestions', 'word is' and 'apparantly' that have been used on the subject recently.
If he just speculated on the boys intentions and used a 'club source' or 'person close to the family', then we'd still be none the wiser. |

Brett Stewart is worth the money, not only for his football talent, but the advertising dollars and vibe he brings to the club. Kids love the guy and his profile for the club will only get better. Kids of today are the supporters of the future. Get them early and you have them for life. He's worth the money. |

Played all of 2005 ,06,07 and 08. Had two season ending Injuries in 09 and 10 and then played most of 2011. [hr]

This is his final year of a probably back ended contract, you will probably find when negotiations commence for his next deal and unless the salary cap is substantially increased, the starting point should be around $400,000 for the first year. |

Check out the 08 and 11 highlights DVD and tell me he's not worth it. You don't recruit players out of the best 10% of the code based on 'value for money' due to injuries; you pay them well because they are the difference between losing 5-6 close games a year, and winning them.
JT's missed a few games in his time, but would any club blink over them if he landed on the open market? |

I taught at his primary school and he's a Gong boy so no, I'm a big fan of Brett. Just can't see him leaving on 500k. If he breaks down then we can say goodbye to back to back. A fit Brett Stewart is definitely what we need.
I'll go on record again though, I have been a supporter since 13 so that makes nearly 30 years. As a teenager would spend 3.5 hours one way getting a train from the Gong, bus or ferry and another bus and turn around and come back home by 8.30pm. My heterosexual mate Jase goes for South Sydney lol!! |
| TokyoEagle said the following on Sun Nov 27 21:33 2011 |
Clubs would definitely take account of his injuries if thinking of buying him, if they didn't they would be foolish. IMO, if on the market now brett's injuries would bring down his price, if he was to get through 2012 with nothing major then it wouldn't be such a big deal.

If he leaves, we can do the same. Would you rather the risk he leaves, has an injury-free season and wins a comp for someone else, or take the risk he stays fit and wins another one (or two) for us.
If you think cutting him away 'cause he demands decent coin is a good idea, I'm glad you're nowhere near our club recruitment team. |

I don't think Darren wants Brett cut, currently I would be very nervous offering $500k per season. No issue with it now as it's part of his current deal and obviously back ended. Brett is important to us and I am sure we will pay whatever is market value is and I am happy with that. He did get though most of last season, and games he did miss was not a result of his knees. It's not all bad and anyone can get injured, not just Brett. |

What Snake has offered to the club over his career he deserves every cent he gets and more. Not many players retire as dual premiership winners and fewer do so as a key factor in those premierships. I'd be happy to have Manly fork out $500k for his next contract as fullbacks of his quality don't come along every day (though Manly have been lucky with blokes like him, Wombat and Ridge at his peak). |
| Haz88 said the following on Mon Nov 28 12:23 2011 |
They have worked extrmely hard for our club and deserve the $$, both stewarts have played major roles into our success over the years.
Also with Brett IMO he was not even at 100% through out the whole year not even close , and we still saw him dominate and play a major role, even in his quiet games watch him bark orders, where to plug holes in our defensive line, reading the game etc he contributes in so many ways..,hamstring was not right and fitness was still not there. Imagine when he gets those things right again and off the back of last year we still saw there was plenty of wriggle left in the Snake!! he has plenty more to offer! not to mention that he basically had to rule him self out of playing origin this year, he could of made that side being 70% fit. |
| Mals said the following on Mon Nov 28 13:13 2011 |
Not only is Brett's try scoring ratio the best in the league his defensive efforts & leadership at fullback are outstanding. No other fullback or outside back, Slater comes the closest, tackles with his aggressiveness & effectiveness.
Glenn keeps gettting better with age & like his brother is a very aggressive defender and his ball playing in attack is the best in the league for a forward.
Both of these boys although in their mid to late 20s have only played approx 150 NRL games so I think they still have a lot of mileage left in their legs. I hope they both stay in the maroon & white for many years to come! |

I think Snake was well below his best this year. He did provide the usual highlights and freakish plays but there were a lot more errors in his game this year, mainly dropped bombs. In his pre injury days he was rock solid under the high ball.
All points to good things though, as he should be better for it in 2012. |
