I though it at the time and I was surprised that DCE admitted his guilt to the ref and then to the press… Guac was goooone so why throw yourself into the fire as well?

It was a bloody accident but Chez definitely contributed as he put the “twisting” motion into the tackle… imo…
I agree. Someone else on here mentioned that maybe he thought he was 'helping' the situation by taking some responsibility, assuming the MRC would only chase Ola with a charge.

I am sure he was and as the captain he was trying to protect his player… good intentions but bad choices imo…

Argue that Guac did not drive him or go on with the tackle or lane landed flat on his back but do not sacrifice yourself in the process…

Damm! Where's Jackie Chiles when you need him? "It's outrageous, egregious, preposterous."
He could be available:

His advertising company however has some spelling issues….inglourious basterds…

I just watched it about half a dozen times. DCE is fine. As Warren Smith said, “DCE was initially involved but it was all the work of Olakuatu”.

Which begs the question, why was DCE charged in the first place?

The commentary from those on these footy programs has been overwhelmingly in support of DCE. I'd say about 98% of people have said DCE is either not responsible, or should have his clean record taken into consideration and have the charge downgraded.

The problem is the Judiciary don't like being challenged, so likely won't go our way.

The most disappointing thing will be DCE being illegible for the Dally M. He's playing well and only going to get better, so had a good shot at taking it.

DCE deserved ‘discount’ for 14-year clean record, say teammates

Manly players have asked why Daly Cherry-Evans’ unblemished disciplinary record was not taken into account as the Sea Eagles captain prepares to front the NRL judiciary for the first time in his 14-year career.
Cherry-Evans was hit with a grade-two dangerous throw charge for a lifting tackle on Shaun Lane in the match against Parramatta on Friday. If successful in seeking a downgrade, he will be handed a $1000 fine and be free to play on Friday against the Raiders.
Sea Eagles teammate Haumole Olakau’atu will miss the next two weeks after he entered an early guilty plea for his part in the same tackle.
The back-rower will use the fortnight out of the game to freshen up before a return that is likely to include his first NSW Origin call-up.

Should the judiciary find him guilty, Cherry-Evans will miss three games, ruling him out of Magic Round in Brisbane next month.
A comparable tackle was made by Jackson Hastings and Joe Ofahengaue, then playing for the Wests Tigers in 2022, when they lifted Newcastle’s Tex Hoy.

Ofahengaue, who was holding Hoy’s upper body, similar to the role Cherry-Evans played in the Lane tackle, was only charged with a grade-one dangerous throw and fined.
Cherry-Evans’ lawyer Nick Ghabar is expected to point to his client’s exemplary record, which has never featured a suspension. He was charged once – also for a dangerous throw against the Eels, in 2018 – but did not miss any game time.

Star Manly fullback Tom Trbojevic said the NRL should explore a system that rewarded clean skins such as Cherry-Evans.

“Daly has played over 300 games, but if someone plays one game and commits the same offence, they serve the same amount of time out of the game,” Trbojevic told this masthead. “You’d like to think there has to be a discount.
“They can’t do it now, which is fine, but hopefully at the end of the year they can look at something like this.”
Jake Trbojevic, who will take over as Manly captain if Cherry-Evans fails at the judiciary, said: “We risk losing the most experienced player this club has had, and we’ve lost the most in-form player this club has at the moment.

“I didn’t think there was much in the tackle. I’ve seen worse let go. It’s tough because those guys play right next to each other.

“If ‘Chez’ is suspended, it will give the chance to someone else. I’m looking forward to someone like Jake Arthur coming in, he’s a great young kid who works really hard and is just a good guy.”
Olakau’atu was sin-binned for the tackle on Lane, who was not injured and able to return after a head injury assessment and finish the game. The Eels asked why Cherry-Evans was also not sent to the bin and the Sea Eagles reduced to 11 men.
Meanwhile, NRL head of elite competitions Graham Annesley confirmed Tom Trbojevic was offside, chasing after a Luke Brooks kick, when Parramatta’s Will Penisini tackled him without the ball and was sin-binned. Rather than be reduced to 12 men, the Eels should have received a penalty at the other end of the field.

Annesley also confirmed the bunker had got it right when denied Wests Tigers captain Api Koroisau a try after he failed to regrip the ball on Saturday night.

Someone told me even if DCE gets the 3 weeks he will still be eligible for Dally M as long as he gets no further suspensions this season. I thought he would be ruled ineligible if suspension was 2 weeks or longer. Thoughts?

You become illegible if suspended for 2 weeks or more, so if he's charged, he can't win either way. Only way he can still be eligible for the Dally M is if the charge is downgraded.

Ron,

Perhaps, he should just appeal to the Judiciary’s common sense and logic, ie, ”It was only a Parramatta player, after all you could hit them all in the head with a crowbar and not hurt them, as they’re all thick, as proven by playing for the slime”

Annesley is a fkn knob, anyone watching that game could see Api regripped the ball and grounded it with force, I'm so sick of the bs Annesley spouts after one of these calamitous mistakes by the bunker, ruining the game 😡😡😡
