I scored 4 tries for Manly in 1 match in what (from the last edition of the Encyclopedia of Rugby League Players) seems to have been my only first grade match. I am?

And if anyone has any info on this guy, I'd be very interested to found out about him. Scoring 4 tries in his only first grade match? I'm sure there's an interesting story there...

I don't know MTW. I thought Dean Whare rewrote the record books with his three try haul on debut this year. David Middleton has said that Dick Sullivan scored four in his second, and last, appearance in the top grade in 1953.

If MB is not correct ... how about a clue?

Might be Alan Sullivan, scored 4 against Easts at the Sports Ground on 1 August 1953, according to Middleton in the 2008 Official League Annual.

Soaringseaeagles states that A (Dick) Sullivan played one match in his Manly career in 1953, scoring ... 4 tries!

You are both correct, it was Arthur (Dick) Sullivan. The fact he seems to have only played 1 or 2 games despite achieving this feat amazes me. Perhaps he got a career-ending injury while training or something? I'd love to find out.

Very interesting. Scored four tries against Easts on 1/8/53 at the Sydney Sports Ground. Following his four tries, went straight back to Reserve grade for the rest of the season and played in the semis for Manly.
