Sponsor looms as potential saviour at Brookie

You are talking about the first privatisation proposal that was to be put to the members in December 2003. Max had already saved the club in 2002 when the place was running at a $2.5 million loss as we exited from the northern eagles jv. Max kept the place afloat by buying the football club...

Manly Sea Eagles Chairman Scott Penn has made a bid to wrest sole control of the club

A majority of the board is 4 votes and this is all that is required for most issues. There are a handful of issues that require a unanimous vote eg CEO position, Chairman etc (Matters to do with the Coach is not one of them, it is standard simple majority 4 votes required issue). There is...

    Extraordinary General Meeting of MWDRLFC

40, 100, 140 - who cares, there is going to be an AGM in December anyway. But if some members are determined to have an EGM, I am sure they will work out the process and make it happen. As for Penn's latest maneuver, fantastic news. Should help bring the shareholders together (well some of them...

Rift between Manly players and officials set to widen

Ha ha, of course no-one can see right through the truth to see everyone's favourite little Mugabe hater. It must burn you up, Matabele, every day to know you are the smartest Manly supporter that ever lived and yet you have zero influence over what happens in our great Club, will muppets like...

Rift between Manly players and officials set to widen

$4.5million in propagation grants from the Leagues Club were not sponsorship and Leagues Club was mad to keep promising them for no return when the private owners kept getting issued shares every time they tipped in money. At least the current Leagues Club board had the good sense to stop giving...

Rift between Manly players and officials set to widen

There was never any intention or obligation for the football club to fund any operational losses. As you said yourself, their aim was to buy back the club which meant all their funds would be going to Delmege in return for his shares, not into the Sea Eagles to cover operational losses.

Rift between Manly players and officials set to widen

If Penn left, another private owner would step in, the same way Quantum stepped in when Delmege wanted out. There are plenty of cashed up people who would love to be able to say I own my football team so the world won't end if Penns decided they had had enough.

Rift between Manly players and officials set to widen

That's an easy one. The Leagues Club have put in the most money since privatisation at about $5.1 million. Surfside is next at just under $5 million. The Penns are a distant third at about $3.1 million. All of these figures exclude sponsorship which would only push Penn even further...

    Extraordinary General Meeting of MWDRLFC

The independence of the Football Club and its Board is the key. If the current blokes aren't the right blokes, that's fine, so long as they are replaced by people who will maintain the independence of the football club. Zorba, as a relative of one of the private shareholders, clearly would...

If Dee Why RSL had poured $30 million dollars into a football team over the last 20 or so years (representing about 110% of its profit over the same period) then it probably would not be travelling too flash either.

    Extraordinary General Meeting of MWDRLFC

If the two private owners vote together then it is 4-3 and the leagues club and football club can be sidelined. Why hasn't this happened? Especially now that Delmege is gone? Could Penn be the problem? They don't seem to be interested in working with Quantum any more than they did with...
