A bit like Turbo in '21 then, yeah? Turbo also dominated rep footy that year too.
He got 35 points in 18 games.
Ponga got 56 in 20 games - so say 28 in 20 as this year there's potentially twice as many points.
What shouldn't be overlooked is that DCE came 4th only six points ( or one game )...
It's not just the six agains, the Storm got pinged for a forward pass TWICE in the first half.
How the refs can make definitive calls on those two passes but not the other twenty or so in any match is ridiculous.
Yes, thanks @mosto for compiling this.
As for the wisdom of the crowd, it's generally on the money but one thing I noticed more of this year was that the 1 point vote tended to be given as an "encouragement award" .... rather than the third best player.
Eg - How did Vaega get 2 points in RD 23...
True, but go through any Holden/Toyota / u20's GF teams or u20 Teams of the Year and see how many players have gone on to what we would call household names and/or regular 1st Graders?
Generally it's about four or five, Panthers of 2015 had a few more
2015 GF teams
1. Brent Naden 3...
To me it shows that they haven't really got into a bidding war to keep players.
Burton, Kikau left and Crichton all leaving for more coin.
Capewell probs more coin and go home to Qld.
Interesting that none of the players that have left are going better than when they left, maybe only Api is...
One thing that stood out to me was that Gamble complained to the ref and said he was bitten but neither he or any of his teammates took that much offence to it to go after Wighton.
Surely if he thought it was intentional he'd want a piece of him, wouldn't he?
Didn't even give him a gobful.
If we are purely stats driven
Last year - 1st 42pts, us 20pts ( 10 behind 8th ), last 10pts -105 f/a
This year - 1st 42pts, us 29pts (3 behind 8th ), last 14pts -6 f/a
We "won" the pre-season cup and are closer to 1st and 8th than we were to last in another Turboless season...
Unless it's been changed the long serving player concession in essence means well but isn't fair and equitable.
From memory it is capped at a certain amount, say $300k that is exempt from the cap BUT that can be used for just one player or many.
For a long serving marquee player an extra $50-75k...
Not many fullbacks run the ball back with venom these days especially on tackle zero, mostly the job of the wingers.
These days most teams kick plans are around controlling where he ( and other fullbacks ) receive the ball so he either takes the tackle thus taking him out of at least the next...
Yes and no in a way.
Looking at your 93 example none of the teams played out of the SFS so it was effectively a neutral venue for all Sydney based teams.
The Brisbane v Canberra game stands out - what were ticket sales like the week before when it could have quite easily been Manly v St George...
It's the TPA's that makes it an interesting and blurry conversation when it comes to "market value"
Does the NRL factor in the TPA plus footy salary to come up with his market value?
Look at Cooper Cronk - left the Storm for the Roosters.
His main reason for leaving the Storm was to...
