    2017 Kangaroos Origin Merit Team

Dugan was ordinary; in default of a meritorius candidate, I select Dylan Walker who should have been there anyway (if I can't cheat, then it's Michael Morgan). Jake T should have been starting, given he was NSW best player over the 3 games (with Josh Jackson probably next). Tyson Frizzell did...

Game Day: Manly v Panthers [Round 18, 2017]

Only seen the last 25 mins. I did see poor discipline from Darcy and Kapow giving them more possession and field position when we really needed it, and then catch-up football which is always low percentage (but the short dropout was fantastic :-). Wondering if the absence of Jake T had something...

    -Jake T-

They should have had Walker in there from the get go. And Jake T needs to start; Frizzell out, Jake in. He shouldn't have been taken off either in the second half of Origin 2. When Qld put their starting big boppers back on the game turned, and around here the timer went ding! and they took one...

    -Jake T-

'Whatever it is exactly that needs to be done' is his motto. Hard yards, key tackle, loose ball cleanup, offload, run into a hole. Kind of player who give you absolute confidence.

And the forward pass from dummy half too.

Manly Champion Players we shouldn't forget

Thanks everyone for remembering and honoring all the players great and good who have put the mighty eagles jersey on.

Manly Champion Players we shouldn't forget

I played touch against Rex also, in the Sunday morning early comp at Nolans Reserve, late 1970s. Had that scary glare when he looked at you like the old time forwards, and swore like a trooper. Good stuff.

Manly Champion Players we shouldn't forget

Top player. Had to go back to the English league late in the season. Came back for the GF into a hot spring day just off the plane and played a blinder.

Manly Champion Players we shouldn't forget

Me neither, but it's good to see them named among this fan community. We have a long history as a club and as Bearfax says we have alot of amazing players in our glittering history, especially in that golden decade of the 1970s. It's up to old bastards like us to fill in the texture.

Manly Champion Players we shouldn't forget

Thanks Bearfax. Yes Dennis Ward is worth remembering. Tough little bloke and a clever footballer is what I recall -- like a tricky pommie halfback but solid like an extra forward. Yakich is just beyond the hazy edge of my living memory of games. Harvies elbow: gets the schooner for bringing...

What's your YART for when your life depends on it?

thanks all. Hard to argue against Ian Roberts, Les Boyd, Kevin Ward somewhere in the forwards rotation. Les Boyd! Could have been anything but lacked the mentality to channel his incredible power and ability. High praise for Jake T but if he keeps going as he's begun he's a Manly great in the...

What's your YART for when your life depends on it?

Inspired by recent historical reminiscing posts, I've been wondering about a hypothetical best of team for when you need a side that will never ever let you down, or take a backward step, or lose heart. The may not be the most individually brilliant or play the most flashy football, but they...

    Manly's greatest tackles

Some great memories here of some great tacklers. Honourable mentions to those not already mentioned: John Harvey's ball running and tackling style were basically the same thing: drive your forearm into the opposition and see how they like it. Probably would have been rubbed out of contemporary...

    Manly's greatest tackles

If there has to be one greatest Manly tackle, this is it for my money. At the game in the Sheridan stand, it was like Igor had passed to the 'this is life or death so if you want to beat us....' phase of the contest. To his credit Dallas just got up and played the ball.

    Manly's greatest tackles

I was at that game at Brookie as well. The piece de resistance of that Solomon Haumono smashing Dan Staines incident is that when he woke up, the ref gave Staines 10 mins in the bin for provoking it!

    Manly's greatest tackles

Desert boots, Amcos and a Miller shirt were de rigeur. My great regret is going to school on the day of the GF replay. My mate wagged it and saw the game from the Sheridan Stand. Wombat could punish people for making a break. That Steve Rogers tackle was brutal. Capped off his match winning...

RIP Ron Rowles. That's an impressive record. What position did he play? And is anyone crusty enough to share any recollections of him?
