    Foran's reason to depart

I don't know which game you were watching...Manly weren't IN the 1971 Grand Final, which was between Souths and St George. When were these particular "dark days"? We were NEVER called the "northern beagles" as far as I can remember... :speechless:

    Where Was The 2015 Jersey?

Just a question: why were the team wearing last year's jerseys against the Roosters on Saturday night? I understood there was a new, slightly different design for this season: Instead of which, they turned out in last year's jersey: Does anyone know the reason for this, and when the...

Cap Breaches - Clubs hit with varying fines

They should take the fine out of the $100,000 they still owe us over the Brett Stewart affair... :@

    Sattler's Extreme HATE for Manly

And conveniently forget to mention that most of those Premierships were won in an era when there were hardly any other teams for them to play against... :P

Forty Years of Hate Based On a Lie

I was in the library, Mozgrame...and they didn't have a copy of The Sea Eagle Has Landed... ;)

NRL night grand finals here to stay

Yes, that was what I pointed out in a previous post. The GF was always played on Saturday up to 1980.

Forty Years of Hate Based On a Lie

As are most of the players who have ever played for us...even ones who later left for other clubs. Ray obviously has good taste. Interestingly, in the book he states that he immediately noticed the much better culture surrounding Manly than what he had experienced at Souths. The club looked...

Forty Years of Hate Based On a Lie

And, of course, he got one in his first season at Manly. In fact, 1972-73 ended up being the only Premierships he ever DID win! :)

Forty Years of Hate Based On a Lie

Yes, but over the years this has tended to be dismissed as Arko spin-doctoring. Now we have confirmation straight from the horse's mouth, so to speak. Manly never "poached" the core of another team. And yet people still believe what they want to believe. Never mind that the current Manly...

NRL night grand finals here to stay

It wasn't always at the end of September either. Back in the 1970s the GF was usually played just after the middle of the month. For example, the 1970 GF was played on 19th September, the 1971 decider was on the 18th September, and our first Premiership win in 1972 was on the 16th September.

Forty Years of Hate Based On a Lie

I have just finished reading a book called Glory Days; The Story of South Sydney's Golden Era by Alan Whiticker, which features a number of interviews with Rabbitohs' stars of the club's last great era between 1967-71. One of the most interesting of these interviews is with Ray Branighan, who...

NRL night grand finals here to stay

Why did they shift the GF from Saturday to Sunday in the first place? Does anyone know?

NRL night grand finals here to stay

Personally, I would prefer to go back to Saturday afternoon, the way it used to be up until 1980. Many younger fans don't realise that Sunday Grand Finals began as recently as 1981. Saturday just feels like a more natural day for a football final than Sunday to me...maybe I am just showing my...

    lol@souffs

2011: Manly win Premiership - followed by immediate and unremitting media campaign to ruin our celebrations and destabilise the club by claiming that our coach is about to jump ship a year early...which ends up becoming a self-fulfilling prophesy. 2014: Souths win Premiership - followed by...

Has Anyone Seen Today's "Daily Telegraph"?

Well I don't...believe me I wouldn't actually buy the Daily Telegraph. But my wife and I were having a coffee at a local shopping centre, and there just happened to be a copy lying about. So I picked it up, out of a kind of morbid curiosity, just to see whether the DT was capable of hypocrisy...

Has Anyone Seen Today's "Daily Telegraph"?

:dodgy: Not for the first time, I found myself gaping in open-mouthed astonishment at what passes for journalism in this paper. Specifically, the sheer unadulterated hypocrisy of their Grand Final coverage. "Glory, Glory" screams the banner headline, while the lead paragraph almost salivates...

Would you rather have been there?

Would I rather get to the Grand Final and lose? No. Getting over a semi-final loss takes about 10 mins. Getting over a GF loss takes the whole off-season...

    Dessie's legacy

The result of the 2007 GF was declared void, so that one doesn't count. That's my theory anyway, and I'm sticking to it! So 2 from 4, or 50% :D He's still a treacherous, unprincipled scumbag though...and the Doggies will lose him the minute someone else offers him even MORE money...

Would you rather have been there?

They were already forgotten before the game...at least, that was the impression I got from the media's shamefully biased coverage of the GF. Channel 9 appeared to mention them only as an afterthought in the otherwise uninterrupted Souths love fest: "oh yeah, there's another team in this...

The Terrible Position I Am In

Of course it is just a game...but without the passionate emotional involvement we all feel, we might as well go and watch the opera instead. I may well not watch it, but I can hardly fail to become aware of the result afterwards, and that is bad enough... :(
