    The Luke Brooks Book Thread.

He was quiet today. I’d forgive him for preserving himself next week, given how much scrutiny he has received with his record streak of most games without playing in a final. Could you imagine the ridicule he would have got if he injured himself this week and missed the finals?! No excuses next...

    Post-Game Discussion Manly V Sharks [Round 27, 2024]

I thought Cronulla were very good today. Manly off the pace after the first 20 mins. Did we have an eye on next week? Maybe. But perhaps it just shows that while we improved a lot this year, there is that much improvement required again to content. Onto next week!

Manly great Anthony Watmough savages club over plan to offload juniors, women’s programs

I guess different people will take a different view of whether the owners are adopting a strategy of running it on the bare minimum or trying to ensure basic business principles of ROI are at least considered. In this case, I don’t have enough information to make the assessment of whether this...

Manly great Anthony Watmough savages club over plan to offload juniors, women’s programs

I had a little to do with Scott Penn in a professional context after we won our 2011 GF. I thought he was nice guy who was absolutely passionate about Manly. I still believe he is, it’s just that his decisions as owner don’t align with how fans think that they’d run the club if they were...

    Turbo back.. at centre

I wonder if it is acceptable per NRL rules for Tom to sign an extension at a lower amount per year. Ie, reducing the value per year of his current contract is not permissible, but if we signed a new 4 year deal from 2025 at $800k a year then that might work. Tom gets the certainty of an extra 2...

    Finals bound

I’m backing us to bounce back. After we played horribly to lose to saints earlier in the year, we played extraordinarily well to beat Penrith the following week. We are still immature as a team, and as disheartening as the the loss to the tigers was, sometimes a team needs to be smacked in the...

Offloads. I’d be interested to know where we sit in the comp for offloads, but I’d be surprised if we weren’t bottom 3. Second phase play will be super helpful against the best defensive units we will be coming up against shortly.

That was Badger in the Bunker. A smelly fart gets put on report these days…

    Post-Game Discussion Manly V Warriors [Round 24, 2024]

Butler … for some reason I don’t mind him. He is nowhere near the being the best ref, but for some reason I think he is consistent (consistently bad for both team). He had a horrible 10m tonight, and the warriors exploited it. We didn’t. Part of the issue was the video ref was Badger. She is...

    Lehi Hopoate

Something is going to have to give in our backline in 2025. All of Garrick, Koula, Hopoate, Talau and Saab are first grade quality and will not be happy to play in second grade. Hoppa and Talau might also be after upgrades on their contracts (and deservedly so too).

    Post-Game Discussion Raiders V Manly [Round 23, 2024]

If it was up to me, it would be Sipley to drop out. His ruck defence is a concern - lots of arm grabs because he lacks condition from his injuries this year. Let’s see how lodge comes back too.

All NRL Games [Round 23, 2024]

Titans are trash tonight. One thing I find odd is that the Titans prop gets 10 mins for a high tackle, but McInnes doesn’t go off for an HIA. By its nature, a sin bin worthy high tackle must have been delivered with force, so McInnes should have gone for an HIA.

Easy decision! Every team needs a ranga or two

    The Salary Crap

There’s no perfect system. Publishing players’ salaries along with all formal offers received during a negotiation would help with transparency. That’s the thing that’s missing.

    Dummy half - 3 into 2

It’s a pretty easy one for me: Croker to start, Simpkin on the bench. Fully fit, our problem is not attack but defence and as we get to the end of the season, hopefully finals, defence becomes even more critical. A Croker / Simpkin combination provides a good balance with tactical flexibility...

    2026 recruitment & retention

You might be misunderstanding my rationale. Garrick is a good player and I enjoy watching him play. But when we re-signed him last time, I’m sure it wasn’t a low contract. So if you are trying to make room in your cap, you have to consider letting some of your mid-cap players go where you (1)...

    2026 recruitment & retention

I’m not so sure we do have much up our sleeve… I hope we do! I would err on the side of being proactive in managing the back 5/6. Things move quickly in this game if we are not careful. If there are takers for some players at full freight, you’d have to consider it. Also, im not sure how much...

    2026 recruitment & retention

I wouldn’t be surprised if we look to offload Garrick before the start of next season. We have both Hoppa and Talau on good value deals who will look for upgrades, and in fairness, they have outshone Garrick this year. The club might also be questioning the value of Koula’s deal… I agree with...

Cross-Forum-Discussion All Other Games Round 20, 2024 discussion

Bob, we have been asking for at least 10 years!! You’d think Fox would have done some market research and realised he detracts from, rather than enhances, the viewing experience.
