Alot of people mention Brooks as a hooker/back up hooker. I don't think he has the defence to be a solid hooker like Croker and lesser extent Simpson's were.

    The Realistic Cleanout

but if the money went up every season (sounds like a back ended contract despite the NRL rule), do you think Manly started the first year at his value, and then started to pay overs year on year, or started at unders leading to paying overs at the end.

    The Realistic Cleanout

whilst I am working on my delusional state, look into what a back ended contract entails in the first years of a contract. What that works out on average a year I dont think any of us really know but we can speculate.

    Kobe Hetherington

No doubt he strengthens manly defensively massively. The trick is, how does manly play him in 2026. Can they get more offensively out of him if he is substituted and only plays 2x 20min slots. What will be the most effective 20min slots to use him taking into account the position he will play...

    The Realistic Cleanout

The club has to suffer that because that is the way they made the deal. I get your angst, I do. But Jake wouldn't have accepted years of unders if he wasn't going to get his year(s) of overs. Where were the people complaining that Jake wasn't being paid enough in the first half of his contract?

    Kobe Hetherington

Like the look of him, I have no idea how realistic he is for 2026 or 27?

    The Realistic Cleanout

I'd say though that there is potential he was being paid unders, therefore the large payment coming in 2026? If he retires, does he get the make-up pay for the years paid unders for?

    Laurie Daley

The sounding board comment came from bulldog Ritchie as a throwaway line. As has been noted, he's only had a coffee to discuss the opportunity. Let's wait and see what happens in regards to his potential role.

I guess in a sense our pack is still unbalanced atm with the inclusion of not knowing how to play Jake. I like the acquisition of Kobe, but cant say where he fits best. I hope we get to see a bit of him in the finals. OLA and Ben are the only real edge players, the rest are middles.

    Caleb Navale

guys, why would you put a half on the bench?? Is this some new coaching philosophy? :) Either another forward/utility or 1-5 position on the bench. Either play Walsh or bring him along slowly through the year when injuries to halves or his form demands it and Brooks (likely) or Fogarty not...

    Kobe Hetherington

Yep, who ever is playing best, but a no to carrying a half on the bench

Agree, some big changes are needed in manlys defence in 2026

You might be right, actually i dont want anyone signed for 5 years unless they are a gun. He signed an extension early/mid 2024 and I cant particularly remember his form at that time one way or another. But i was just making the point they didn't decide Saab over TT2 at this current time.

    The Realistic Cleanout

I think it is money and its because it was not a 1st grade centre or wing salary that was being offered. Again, no player gets to ask for a guaranteed position in the team, particularly players not regularly in 1st grade. My guess he was offered back up backline salary, and he has decided to...

Decisions for next year will also have 2027 taken into account when more $$ becomes available with the decrease in Jake and Tom's wages. My point being, get a player, maybe 2 that Manly see as an astute buy and for the future if manly can afford it and there a worthy players available, ensuring...

Maybe if both were off contract at the end of this season, TT2, may be the pick. But Saab was signed long term a while ago, I assume when he was showing better form.

    Caleb Navale

I did mention that I wasn't seeing any impact from his previous performances, and ill stand by that cause what I am seeing the last few weeks is miles above what ive witnessed previously. Whether that is stamina or something else, or both, im more impressed in what Ives seen of him of recent weeks.
