    Jake Simpkin signed until 2026

I think it is worth considering the possibility that, based on what the coaching staff have seen from trials, pre-season training, plus half a year of JS being at the club, that Tevaga is considered the better option as a starting hooker on his own merits at the moment.

One has to go ... who ?

If he wants to do it, then it makes sense to try. But if he doesn't, then he'd be within his rights to ask for a release to a club that will play him in his preferred position, which I imagine would attract a higher salary ceiling than that of a utility player.

    Just Making up the numbers?

In my opinion the problem is that finals are played at a different level of intensity to the regular season... and I haven't yet seen evidence that we have the bandwidth to match the top teams across the park in this scenario. Last year we could pick off any team during the regular season and...

My top 10 experiences supporting Manly

The 2014 comeback against Penrith at Brookvale was a good one. First home Sunday afternoon game in 4 months and weather was warm and dry for a change. We were pretty ordinary for over half the game and trailed by 16 points, but won after scoring two tries in the last 5 minutes. Tom Symonds with...

    The No-Look News (Schuster Chronicles)

Are you suggesting that having to wait until age 21 to get a full time start at 5/8 derailed Josh's career? Or that we could/would somehow have won a premiership in 2021 with Josh at #6?

    Trial V Panthers

DCE will depart in the next few years, and when he does, we will need to replace him. Some people think that we can't or won't be successful when that happens, but I disagree. As good as he is, we will be fine. Bob Fulton departed in 1976... and while we didn't replace him with another...

    Trial V Panthers

Why not? We haven't won a premiership with him in 14 years. When he goes, we will find another half back. And if it doesn't work out with them, we'll find another one.

    Caleb Navale

I look at Glenn Stewart as a comparison... he was a small forward and was only an occasional first grader for 4 seasons before securing a starting position, and then never looked back. Navale may make it as an NRL forward and we shouldn't write him off... but at this point in time I don't see...

    Trial V Panthers

Win lose or draw... it is only a trial game... at Leichhardt... in the rain. We won the pre-season competition last year and it had zero consequences for the actual season. So best to just get through it without injuries. The coach should be judged on the actual season, not on a trial game when...

    The No-Look News (Schuster Chronicles)

Many in this thread have criticised the club, Des, Seibold, and others for managing him incorrectly. But in hindsight we perhaps gave him more opportunities than he would have been given elsewhere to earn his place in the position he wanted (at the expense of other players). Unfortunately, it...

The Jazz thread ... all that Jazz

Maybe I wasn't paying enough attention, but to me his service from dummy half has looked a bit sharper than Simpkin's looked earlier today... which isn't what I was expecting. For me the jury is still out on who is the better option to start the season.

    Trial V Wabbits

There's no reason why he can't have a long NRL career, but I don't think it will be in the halves.

    The Bully files

I could be wrong, but I think that Bullemor's attributes would be more effective against tiring defenses, rather than him just making a lot of hit-ups and tackles at the start of the game to set the tempo for the rest of the squad. A lot of his highlights aren't him making big hits or tackles...

The Jazz thread ... all that Jazz

Simpkin is 23 and has played 47 NRL games... so with Croker out injured, if the coach (having seen what he brings to the table both in NRL games and at training) now picks Tevaga as a starting hooker, then I would suggest that Simpkin is not going to be the immediate solution at #9 that some...

I see Top 4 and expect it

Top 4 would be the aim, but what I want to see is continuous improvement... Ladder position is important, but so is the manner in which we get there, and how we perform in finals. 2021 was a great sugar hit when we finished 4th... but we got there largely on the back of one of the greatest...

V’landys wants POTUS Trump in Vegas for NRL season opener

I find it improbable (though not impossible) that a sitting US President would attend a rugby league event with no American representation, even though it's in Las Vegas. I suppose it can't hurt to ask though.

    DCE to announce retierment

I don't think this is rocket science. He is very fit and looks after himself... but if DCE constantly took hit-ups as often as Cleary (i.e. runs hard and direct into the opposition defence and wear a big hit in doing so) and was also the main goal kicker... then I would suggest that he would be...
