Grant to clubs is currently $7.55M
Salary cap is currently $6.1M

Sure, that gives incompetent clubs a bit of financial security. But perhaps the salary cap should be set at $10M. A lot of the games problems disappear with repositioning how much a NRL player is worth. Sure, new problems arise. But surely, all clubs should be able to generate that amount of money to bridge the gap.

A much better idea to keep players in the game than the CEO having discretion to exempt players from the cap. But the NRL want to retain that money to piss up against the wall...

Manly rarely make a profit and when they do its peanuts, so we would not be able to fund a greater spend. How competitive do you think we would be against bongos, souffs, chooks & dishlickers if they were able to spend $3-$4 million each year more than us on players.

The current salary cap is the best solution available right now.

The nrl sold the tv rights for peanuts and accepted ridiculous demands by the tv rights owner to more or less control games and particularly scheduling. The nrl gets it's money through license, merch, tv rights and gate takings. There just isn't room for all of those to make enough to grant the money they need. With the way the tv rights control the scheduling gate takings can only naturally decline whilst the profit of the tv show goes up, the two are natural competing entities.

What the NRL should have been doing was looking at a scaling model of percentages for the tv rights rather than a flat health fee of 13 billion. They have put them selves in a position where in the case 9 can control the time of games to suit them and naturally increase the exposure of tv audiences and decline bums in seats at the game so the nrl lose out on major profit centre without a chance to get greater compensation from the area that takes this money....
Once again the NRL are caught up in poor business decisions

regardless of how much the cap is, a players worth is in relation to what the cap is.
if the cap is lifted to $10M than the top players - thurston for example will demand a salary in relation to the new cap.

If mat giteau is worth 1 million euro to French rugby the likes of sbw and Inglis, who are all about the money will always be tempted to leave the nrl. We can't compete with the high prices they pay and should not try.

Hang on a mo, I thought that the Vermin, Rorters, Filthy dogs, Donkeys and Drizzle already had a 10 million cap lol.

What made you think they had a cap?

Yeah a cap where clubs like the Donkeys breach it without punishment.

We have to get corruption out of the game before its too late.

Let them go, if they are money hungry don't waste good money trying to keep them, spend more on the youth and keeping the senior players who only want to play League.

Make the cap $50million and all it goes to the top players...it just goes pro rata

this isn't an issue. The NRL provides grants to every club for every cent of the salary cap.

That is not what was proposed.
