Penrith boss Phil Gould revealed that the club couldn’t fit mobile forward Chris McQueen under their salary cap and have therefore decided not to pursue him any further.

No. We’ve withdrawn from discussions with Chris McQueen. Genuinely nice bloke & quality player but not in our budget https://t.co/aEFbegfCzf

— Phil Gould AM (@Gus10Gould) November 26, 2015

The Rabbitohs also seem at long odds to re-sign McQueen, considering the salary cap problems they’re currently experiencing in order to have Sam Burgess’ contract fit under their cap.

McQueen is currently contracted to the Bunnies for the 2016 season, but could potentially end up at the Titans over the summer.

TEST centre Dylan Walker was formally released by South Sydney on Thursday night — just moments after his lawyer claimed he had been treated “like a lump of meat.”

Walker met with Souths coach Michael Maguire on Wednesday night to thrash out a release from the final year of his contract. He will now sign a three-year deal with Manly.

Manly are expected to announce Dylan Walker’s move to the club within a week following his dramatic release from South Sydney.
Walker was cut from the Rabbitohs on Thursday afternoon just hours after the club fined him and imposed several sanctions over the prescription drugs overdose.

His move to the Sea Eagles has been a done deal for weeks, with Manly now free to announce one of 2016’s marquee signings once a few more details are thrashed out.

One of those details is the release of Kiwi utility Peta Hiku, who now has at least four clubs chasing him.

Melbourne have now entered the race alongside Parramatta, St George Illawarra and South Sydney.

The Eels are considered front-runners due to Hiku’s relationship with former Manly assistant Brad Arthur.

Walker will line-up at five-eighth for the Sea Eagles, who have been the biggest movers in the player market.

The Bunnies star joins Nate Myles, Martin Taupau, Darcy Lussick, Lewis Brown and Api Koroisau at Brookvale next year.

“He was the last missing piece in our jigsaw,” a Manly insider told Sportal.

“It’s a quality outfit from 1-17.”

Those close to Walker say the representative centre was desperate to leave Redfern after falling out with coach Michael Maguire.

Walker’s lawyer accused the Rabbitohs of treating his client ‘like a piece of meat’ and said the 22-year-old had "been sucked in, chewed up and well and truly spat out".

Walker’s exit eases salary cap pressure on Souths in the wake of Sam Burgess’ return.

STAR hooker Robbie Farah will officially play out his NRL career at Wests Tigers.

The stunning development will be formally announced by Wests Tigers management in the next 24 to 48 hours.

The Daily Telegraph can reveal the club will issue a media statement confirming Farah will now fulfill the final two years of his contract at Concord.

The cease fire ends an ugly three-month standoff between Farah and the club.

The Tigers initially told the star hooker he was free to negotiate with rival NRL clubs.

The saga has threatened to rip the Tigers apart and made the club a laughing stock

But the revelation that Farah will stay will delight fans and members.

Wests Tigers will now pay Farah his $1.9 million contract money for seasons 2016 and 2017.

The Daily Telegraph understands Wests Tigers will also apologise to fans and members for their treatment during the Farah drama.

There won’t be any official apology to Farah.

Wests Tigers chief executive Justin Pascoe was contacted on Monday night by The Daily Telegraph but declied to comment.

Farah asked for a release to join another club only last week.

Any interest the Sydney Roosters had in Farah subsided though with relevations incumbent hooker and co-captain Jake Friend was unsettled at the club’s approach to Farah.

Pascoe has worked overtime in the past month to rectify the differences between the club and Farah. It was a saga Pascoe inherited — not initiated.

Farah will now have to battle away to win his place in Wests Tigers team to start next season. After earlier telling Farah he would play reserve grade next season, the Tigers bought Manly hooker Matt Ballin last month

It remains to be seen how Farah’s retention will affect head coach Jason Taylor.

Taylor and Farah have been at loggerheads since the coach told his then captain to move on from the embattled club.

The pair will simply be forced to tolerate one another.

Farah, 31, will now end his successful career at Wests Tigers as a one-club NRL legend.

At 33, when his contract expires, Farah will either retire or play a final season in England’s Super League.

Farah wanted to remain in the NRL at least next season to have one final crack at playing State of Origin for NSW.

Throughout the entire drama, Blues coach Laurie Daley stood staunchly beside Farah.

The Farah-Tigers situation split the club, some players almost being pushed to support either Farah or Taylor.

Farah stood down as captain last month. It would appear Wests Tigers can now finally move forward, leaving the entire Farah controversy for the history books.

Peta Hiku to join Penrith on a three-year deal

Christian NicolussiThe Daily Telegraph

NEW Zealand international Peta Hiku is believed to have signed a three-year deal with Penrith on Wednesday.

Hiku was also being pursued by Parramatta and St George Illawarra, but opted to head to the foot of the mountains.

The 23-year-old will be a wonderful addition to the Panthers’ backline that also features Matt Moylan and fellow Kiwis Dean Whare and Dallin Watene-Zelezniak.

That leaves James Roberts and Tim Lafai as the other centres on the open market.

Manly, who told Hiku he was free to look elsewhere, are expected to put out a statement later on Wednesday. The confirmation of Hiku to Penrith should also allow the Sea Eagles to confirm the signing of Dylan Walker.

MORE TO COME

DALLY M centre of the year James Roberts is poised to sign with Brisbane in a move that would inflict further pain on the Gold Coast Titans.

Roberts, who walked out on Gold Coast this week after a forged contract drama, has told friends he wants to play under Wayne Bennett, win a competition, play State of Origin and represent Australia.

He feels he can achieve all these goals with the Titans’ archrivals in Brisbane.

Boxing champ, former NRL star and Roberts’ cousin, Anthony Mundine, has been advising the young centre and said Bennett would be the perfect fit.

Mundine played under Bennett during one season at Brisbane.

“I was coached by Wayne and he knows how to get the best out of his players,’’ Mundine said. “I’ve always believed football is like boxing where the simpler things are, the better it is.
