Given Vaega is on there, it must be a reflection of who actually is signed to the club next year.

Might mean we do have a bit of cash available...
Yeah unconfirmed both had been resigned. But the drum on Waddell wasnt a short one either I thought it was 3 years.

So that Varga is there and Waddell is not?

Perhaps Corey is worthy of a major resigning announcement and Varga isn't.

But it currently doesn't look great for Waddell.

It's not great for us frankly we need more mobile middles not less.

And? So Gould’s whole recruitment/talent identification/coaching/structuring,gets thrown out the window because of that one decision?A decision that in hindsight has seemed to have worked.
I would have thought that the coach has had more to do with their success than Gould!

Just sayin’

At what point did I say Gould was the sole reason Penrith are where they are now??? And Cleary coaches the First grade side,do you think he’s looking after all the juniors that the club has and is bringing through? This is the sort of thinking that has got Manly in trouble of recent times.Just thinking of the top grade for short term “success” is a one way street to trouble. At the moment, the club basically has 3 local juniors, give or take a couple that were brought into the system and those 3 are from the same womb. Its a sad state of affairs when fans go into a season with the sole expectation is to avoid the wooden spoon

While Gould isn’t some dumb arse it’s easy to say the best system is junior development when you literally have thousands of kids in the system.

Manly are one of the clubs who don’t have a large catchment, so we need a different approach.

I so wish that we had the AFL draft system where the best kids get picked by the bottom teams in an endeavour to become a better team.

I’m not an AFL fan but I have a mate who is a Richmond fan and I think he told me they get something like 4 or 5 of the top 20 kids because they ran last this year.

I get all the downsides to a draft but if we want bottom teams becoming top teams it’s something like this that will have to happen .

We need to continue doing what we've doing of late. Identifying young players from other codes and catchments and bring them in eg. Willett, Large, Walsh. There is a number of players off the top of my head that haven't player nrl in the junior system that would be worth looking at. So surely there would be much more.

Heinz Lemoto
Ama Lafu
Arama Hau
Chris Faagutu
Zac Fittler
Ethan Ferguson
Rob Toia
Harrison Hassett
Demetric Sifakula
Zyon Maiu'u
Max McCarthy
Ethan Roberts
Blake Steep
Keagan Russell Smith
Blake Moore
Angelis Hotere Papali'i
Dion Teaupa

Surely even Alex leapai will see sense and return to league when he realises there's no money in boxing. One to keep tabs on. There is plenty of talent with upside out there. Some may be already better than your mattersons etc

Get them in young

Do we really have a governing body and clubs that want it? If we did, it would already be in place.
You are correct. The governing body, the clubs and the RLPA, as well as every individual player, would have to agree for a draft system to even stand a chance. And even then, as @frank stokes says, the minute any player (say, a young player about to get drafted somewhere he doesn't want to go) challenged the system in court, it would fall over as a restraint of trade.

I don’t think a draft is the way to go, it takes away individuals choice of where they want to be and what is personally best for them.

Every individual has a unique circumstance and should be entitled to their own decision.

Make the salary cap the same for every club, some clubs at the moment have huge third party supplements to players along with sponsorship that makes the salary cap an uneven playing field.

Cut the third party supplements and make the salary cap larger if it needs to be to accommodate the deals that players are currently on with third party supplements.
