This is now "Twister" meets the "straw man" 😅
Would Manly have won the comp with any of them = No
Are they better than Seibold = Yes
Have a good weekend Bozo 💯🔥
I am No Straw man feathered friend
I am Manly The Bird Man :)
Would Manly have won a Comp With Cleary ?
Who would have believed Cleary could win 4 straight Premierships in the Modern Salary Cap Handy Cap era
Every thing is Possible with Great coaches

@maxta

You are 110% correct , it’s the whole set up from top to bottom , the coaches might get all the credit but just like in the field it’s a team effort.
You are 100% correct it is a Team effort
and to bring out the Best in a Team You need the Effort of a Great coach to Inspire
Superior coaches are Results oriented coaches
Put the Substandard Seibold at the Riff and you get a deferent Result

You certainly are no "Straw man" Bozo....I was referring to your arguement.
We are feathered friends....
I will safely state - Manly would NOT have won with Ivan Cleary as coach, unless he bought 3-4 star players with him.

Spine - Melbourne have shown how you can build a side around a good spine. Our weakness in our spine is dummy half. The PM v PNG game highlighted to me the importance of a very quick dummy half getting in behind defensive lines. The Aus PM looked much better when Liddle came onto the filed. We don't have that. Additionally fast clean service puts the pack on the front foot. With Hoppa as back up for Turbo at Fullback we need to sort out number 9. Once we do that we have the spine we need.

Forwards - Our pack lacks mobility and is too slow. We need speed at number 13 and another hard mobile and powerful backrower to partner Big O. Apart from Paseka our front rowers are slow and have poor lateral movement. Brown is not a front rower and Jake is not a lock.

Backs - Defensively our back line has me expecting them to concede a try each time it goes out wide. Seibs really needs to stop DCE rushing up out of the defensive line. After watching the PM v PNG I am still convinced that Rueben is a better winger than a centre and thats where we should be playing him.

Stay as we are and we play well in 2025 we will finish the best of the rest again.

We have the slowest play the ball in the comp. Build no momentum. Very rarely do we get on a big roll downfield.

Our wrestle with and without the ball has improved out of sight under Seibs. But make no mistake we are still probably only middle of the pack here, to be fair he inherited a team just the worst at the comp at wrestle. It was almost like Des had the opposite logic, don't ever get 3 in a tackle and dominate it, let them up as quick as you can in defence, and in attack don't place much focus on getting to your stomach and quick play of the ball.

We need a couple more mobile types in the forwards to match the better teams here. Our big forwards are just too slow under fatigue and the wrestle is one of the first things that gives.

You replied to my previous post about Manly Not going to win a premiership with a wooden spoon coach like Seibold
And you said Seibold did better than the coaches this year that failed to produce

The moral of your story is
You are comparing a failure with failures

Our benchmark is Winning Premierships
and Unless we raise our mediocre mindset and standards and compare our selves with the Premiership Kings
We will continue to be Premiership Pawns

Maybe the forwards need changing rather than a new coach.

Agree

Good coach ,obviously a great people manager BUT he didn’t create that dynasty, he inherited the players , the system and the nursery and now they are so successful every kid within cooee of the place wants to be a Panther.

Oh & he brought along his son.
So what exactly makes a great coach. Has done something no other modern coach has done and still people won’t give him credit? If he wins 10 in row will he get credit then?

Yes, but probably only from the people already giving him credit.
(includes me, winning a comp is bloody hard no matter which way you look at it)

Completely agree about the dummy-half situation. If we stick with the status quo- we will NOT progress. Need to make complete change in direction with that position. Coaches the likes of Bellamy, Bennett etc would not hesitate.

I’ve given him plenty of credit , but my point is ( maybe you’ve missed it ) is that the great coaches all have a major part around them.

A meticulous system.

Without this they don’t succeed, and my example is one of THE great coaches , Wayne Bennett at the Dolphins.

Of course Bellamy & Cleary are great coaches , but they are part of a great system as well.

That’s my point , not to bag him at all but if you took Cleary at the start of 2024 and put him at the Tigers , they would still have finished bottom 4.
