I was having a discussion with a Cronulla supporting mate about JSL and we were trying to think of the last player Manly recruited from Cronulla and I was struggling to come up with a decent one. Then it got me thinking about the best player we've recruited from each opposition club. Criteria was they must have had played more than 20 first grade games before Manly signed them, so they were an established player of sorts not just a rookie. My memory doesn't go back much past late 70's, so happy to hear thoughts from earlier days.

Pretty good list there, but here's a few more contenders!

North Queensland (pre-Cows) - John 'Cracker' McDonald
Norths - John Gray, Goldie Walker
Penrith - Des Hasler
Easts - Johnny Mayes
Newcastle (pre-Knights) - Allan Thomson

Cracker was signed as a current Test centre and captained us in a grand final.
Walker, Hasler, Mayes, and Thomson won grand finals with Manly, and were or later became internationals.
Gray was an English and Great Britain Test player who would have been in a Manly grand final-winning side, except he got suspended in a semi-final!

Wests Magpies - Stephen Knight

Souths/Bulldogs/Wests - Jim Sedaris

Canberra (pre Raiders) - Phil Carey

Parramatta - Peter Peters

Wests - Ray Brown, John Dorahy, Kevin McGuinness
Parramatta - Geoff Gerard, Tony Melrose, David Liddiard, David Williams
