Bring back POWER game

First Grader
The best form early season was blokes tucking the ball under the arm and running flat out direct into the defence.
The Eels game gave a false illusion that playing lateral and trick plays were the formula...well it ain’t working.
No coincidence the best Manly looked last night, was off the back of 2 big subs who went due North with the ball.
Apart from dropped ball near the line this was getting Manly on top in patches of the match.
There is a big , strong pack here and there’s nothing worse for the opposition than these boys swallowing some angry pills and charging into the defence like they want to hurt them.
Win the play ball and invite Tom, DCE and API into the game.

That's what they did last night. Massive running Meters just didn't capilatise on that. Still need those off loads which we have put away because how bad our handling has been, still had enough chances. Confidence is just so low

The pack was not the reason we lost the game last night. Our forward pack had more than enough power for our backs to capitalise. What killed was the lack of a second option in attack to DCE. He was making every decision in attack and that's just not his game. Hopefully getting a half with some flair next week will help but good to see the forwards get back some form.

Very true and coupled with the fact most of the time there was bugger all blokes pushing up in support either. That's something that Jacko can and would do if given the opportunity. He's never far from the ball and that could really help our attack! *cue optimistic emoticon

The running metres were great.
In fact apart from 3-4 errors in the play ball would have scored 3 more tries when hot on attack....even Croker and DCE almost tries we’re on the back of this and maintaining direct running.
Often in the red zone after winning with this direct formula, attacked sideways forgetting what got them there.... till they finally iscollated a half and Lane walked straight through him.
Personally would like more direct attacking at the edges...I mean every time played direct at an edge there was a try or disallowed try.

our middle 3 made close to 600m between them and Paseka off the bench was almost 150m. I think the power game was there.

Not in the red zone....all lateral apart from a Lane try and 2 disallowed tries
I think the post above states good metres, does not equal points.

Wonder if Jackson H is picked and things start turning around?

Trent could look a bit like Turnbull and co - you know, trying to explain why they were opposed to a royal commission into the banks.

The go forward was fine last night, the team had decent field position for most of the match but our halves did not get the job done!!
Go forward was great
But in the red zone it changed
Lane went direct on the edge and scored easily
Who else hit the edge directly in the 20m line.....maybe could have had more success with the power game close to the line....you don’t score points from half way.

Just read on an nrl site that Dylan Walker could be on the move to Souths . Also saying it could be very soon .

Bunnies are already quite well stocked with high profile and no doubt high cap value back line players like G I , Gaigai, Johnson and Reynolds so highly unlikely they could accommodate Walker even if he was interested , which he obviously isn "t . At least one very pleasing thing from Friday"s match was the speed that Walker showed to claim his try , still has a way to go and needs some more decent ball but appears very importantly that he has largely regained his speed . Would be surprised if he does not see out his current contract into next year and maybe he will stay even longer if circumstances allow it .

Just on the Power game, I do get we won more metres and do so often even when Losing games.
The point is not how many metres big Marty and co eat up weekly.
More what comes off the back of it.
For example - our players often carry the ball 12 metres, have 3 tacklers roll them on their back and the defence is reset due to a slow play ball.
Prefer 8 metres, landing on front and a fast play ball to let API, DCE and Tom take on a ragged, backpedaling defence.
The second part of the improved Power play is in the opposition 20, very rarely attack the edges...their halves and when Lane, even Thompson has done so, Manly score or look likely.
Seem to get in the 20 and either lose the ball or play sideways.
Really think the players are there to engage those edge defenders with direct Power plays....rarely happens.

I would say that you are definitely on to something there with the quicker playing of the ball aspect or also at least combined with more of a struggle getting back up to play it and maybe then to also induce some more penalty"s Manly 's way . But for sure the opposition 's defence does seem to be able to reset quite easily with many of the Manly slow play the balls this season . Also for sure , Manly have their good share of power runners in the forwards who can be very effective with some direct power running in the opposition "s red zone . Hopefully something the side can improve on and take advantage of including the good ruck meters currently made and also quicker playing of the ball . Also if some better confidence can be restored , maybe even some better second phase play where Manly does have the players to shine .

No mate Nrl gossip on facey . Sounds like a garbage page but check it out . Pretty adamant that he's going .

Some semi-literate Souffs fan has also put it up on zero tackle. Here are some classic quotes from the article:

Walker debuted for the Rabbitohs midway through the 2013 season, featuring in 63 games for the red and green, including the 2014 Grand Final, before a prediction drug scandal saw him sacked in 2015.

If the drugs were any good he should have seen that one coming....

Regardless of who currently sits on South Sydney’s roster, there’s no doubt the club would be thrilled to regain a man once dubbed South’s best juniors in years.

That’s a huge call. He’s only one bloke.

Walker will be looking to sure up his long-term future after announcing that he and partner Alexandra are expecting there first child.

There? Where?
