Sounds like the Jaxson Paulo to the cows has only recently materialised. That took a long time.

So what is the date memberships are up for renewal, roll over etc?

Is it next week that almost everyone is back ( other than those who played reps ) , if so it’ll be next week that all the staff are back , including the media department.

I’d say any signing news won’t be far away but I’d be surprised if it’s anyone else that’s not already mentioned, or if it is it’ll be underwhelming rather than overwhelming.

I also hope we don’t regret letting Jamie H go , if he turns into a gun half it’ll be another one lost, like Gutherson & JWH.
I don't really think it's the same, because we very clearly have incumbents in Brooks and DCE, with DCE probably having two years to go. Nowhere else Humphreys could've slotted in but reserve grade.

On the other hand, JWH was very clearly going to be useful to keep around in the prop rotation, and our backline was a literal roulette table when Gutho left, with the old guard retiring. I don't think it's really as comparable, since it was downright stupid to let those two go.

I actually think our team does.

Back 5 looking pretty rough, Walker starting on an edge, Siro at 13. JWH is 35 years old. Sione fringie.

But really, that is neither here nor there, the more valid point is you can make a team like that for basically every team in the comp.

There’s a lot , but most teams would have lists like that, and there reasons for every single one of them that you mention , it not just like we said “ onya bike “ to all of them.

AFB ( as an example ) virtually blackmailed them.

Brian Kelly wanted to live closer to his family in the northern rivers.

Api was a choice between young Fainu and Api, and how could the club have known what would happen.

Of the players we lost this year , most were under performers , Lawton got a big offer to move.

I only see Humphreys as one we might regret.

You are the most depressing poster on this site and just for once try and smell the roses

Your intelligence seems sound but your methodology of getting a point across is consistently depressing and targeted in a way to make you sound superior.

Your not

Because of this I have resisted to block you like many others but you leave me no choice

Our side would annihilate that team. The backline and second row are awful. The starting props and hooker are the only positions where that side is better than ours.

I think to be really fair that Seibold inherited a Des team when he arrived , and it has taken him a few years to get rid of the duds ( his duds not our duds) and we are starting to see the team he wants and think can do better.

This year we did much better than the previous , and I’m expecting us to do much better in 2025 than we did this year.

We are clearly a few positions short of competing with the big boys, but given their particular set of circumstances it’s doubtful we’ll be able to anytime soon.

Mind you that also applies to about 14 other teams as well.

If this is what sets you off, my recommendation would be to toughen up, or you'll end up talking to yourself on this forum - but please, if a different point of view means you want to ignore someone, go for it - why advertise the fact - you looking for plaudits ?

Also, you might want to steer clear of Instagram, Facebook and in particular X (formally twitter) because they are a cesspool of negativity, hate and differences of opinions.

I have 0 people on ignore. ZERO. With all the absolute crap slung my way from many on here over the years. Threats of violence, people talking about my family, crossing lines with real life job security. The abuse.

But me posting a team of ex players, to highlight my perceived flaws in our recruitment is enough to send you over the edge - all power to you. You're an individual , and your view is as valid as mine, so go for it .

I do however note , you mentioned the other day, despite our new acquisitions , we need another marquee forward. Which is pretty well what I've been saying in a roundabout way, so given that, I'd better ignore you too.

Take care. If I'm negative & depressing (as you say), I would counter that with you might be considered as being woke. An ideal the world is currently rejecting.

P.S. I guess you missed the part where I called for Bully to be resigned. Where I said our backline is top 2-3 in the league. Where Mestrov , the coaches, the owners are great. You clearly didn't acknowledge that. But hell hath no fury that I list a team we could have fielded of ex Manly players. Hahahahahaha - oh, and I won't be arguing with you on any of these points.

Peter O 'Sullivan , the highly regarded recruiter [ well used to be ] rated J W H as the next big thing prop wise when Manly reluctantly let him go and no doubt Manly were fully aware of his potential at the time but the choice then was to try to move on the likes of Kite , Perry and Jason King and these 3 were essentially at the top of their games at that stage .
Then unlikely Manly would have been able to recruit or keep the likes of Marty T . or A F B [ if he somehow was able to be retained ]
Not sure if Sam Fainu will eventually reach the level of J W H but he would be the other one who in an ideal scenario for Manly may have been well worth trying to retain long term .
Would rate A F B slightly better then J W H in any case , just with a personal take .
Can't see any major issues with the rest of notable or reasonably notable players that have left the past 10 or so years
Humphreys is a well rounded and quite versatile footy player but would expect just a fair level i st grader at best if given an opportunity there at Souths .
Also still no misgivings letting Gutho go, great competitor and talented footy player but as things have played out , just would have been too hard to accommodate cap wise and with general playing and positional circumstances

I think that if you look at each of those players in @Ryan post there’s a specific reason as to why each one was let go.

I sympathise with Ryan , they all turned out to be good players ( AFB already was ) but every one of them has a story.

JWH was the next big thing when he played for our 20’s , we all wanted him to be signed but yes who do you let go of those you’ve mentioned.

Some will say Jason King but he was an Eagle through & through and still had a few good years left in him at the time , and remember , this was Des, and if nothing Des is as loyal as **** to his players.

A more forward thinking , hard nosed , modern coach might say “ Onya bike Kingie “ but not Des.

The Fainu brothers will be a wait & see but there’s another story there too isn’t there , wanting huge money , before being proven, and who do we let go to for them in ( would have been 2-4 players on the bottom level ).

It’s a hard road recruitment

01. Clinton Gutherson - agree we should have kept him
02. Christian Tuipulotu - when did he become a good player? He scored a few tries at Saints this year but prior to that he didn't really do much while here. Talau is a much better option IMO.
03. Jesse Ramien - it took him a few years to settle into his game, after a stint at the Sharks then Newcastle, where he didn't show much until returning to the Sharks
04. Peta Hiku OR Brian Kelly - I would have liked to have kept Hiku. Kelly wanted out to be closer to family.
05. Albert Hopoate - see Christian Tuipulotu.
06. Tom Wright OR Kaeo Weekes OR Kieran Foran - Tom Wright is good at union, didn't show much consistency when here. Kaeo Weekes has started to show some promise this season but didn't make the most of the opportunities he got here.
07. Nycho Hynes - was injured & wen through prolonged mental health issues before being picked up by Melbourne from QLD Cup. Would have surplus to DCE IMO.
08. Jared Waerea-Hargreaves - Uncle Nick offered him more than we were prepared to.
09. Apisai Koroisou - the club chose to go with Mansae Fainu & had no way of knowing the stupidity he would get up to in the offseason.
10. Addin Fonua-Blake - he wanted out & was starting to show a bad attitude.
11. Dylan Walker - what has he actually done in his career, apart from being on Souths 2014 Gf winning team & sitting out large chunks due to stupidity (stood down for DV, broken eye socket for squaring up to Curtis Scott but not defending himself) & injuries.
12. Samuela Fainu - the Fainu family showed zero loyalty to Manly once Manase was found guilty. To me, that's symptomatic of a problem personality. Add Latu & you have them backing each other up when things don't go their way.
13. Curtis Sironen - was pretty unimpressive in his time here IMO, * had to go to ESL as no other clubs wanted him, so no great loss.

14. Jamie Humphreys OR Sam Verrills - Verrills came through our junior system but wanted out of Manly after his older brother took his own life. Humprehys is yet to be proven & was surplus to DCE & Brooks.
15. Terrel May - he was at BWSE & never showed much while there.
16. Sione Fainu - see Samuela
17. Karl Lawton - only started showing promise this season, was prone to injury for most of his time here.

Markos: tell me our current team could beat this team. I dare you. When you look at all the plonks in our forward pack, is there any wonder people get frustrated and/or the ****s?

The Cowboys have announced the signing of outside back Jaxson Paulo, who will join his fourth different team in as many seasons.

With Val Holmes heading to the Dragons and Kyle Feldt Super League-bound, the Cowboys needed backline depth.

Paulo signed a three-year deal to join Manly from 2024, but only played in eight games for the Sea Eagles this past season before being given permission to leave two years before the end of his deal.
