Double headers to highlight 2018 NRL schedule

The NRL will stage an unprecedented four double headers across four major cities in Australia and New Zealand as part of the 2018 NRL Telstra Premiership.

Sydney’s ANZ Stadium and Auckland’s Mt Smart Stadium will host double headers in 2018, along with Perth Stadium and Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium, all in the first 10 rounds of the 2018 Premiership.

It will be the first time in the history of the NRL four double-headers have been a part of the schedule.

The double headers will feature:

The Perth double header will feature the first match as defending Premiers for Melbourne Storm, while the Auckland double header will feature both Grand Finalists, Melbourne Stormand North Queensland Cowboys.

NRL CEO Todd Greenberg said the double headers would create an exciting element of next season’s schedule.

“We will have double headers in four major cities – three in Australia and one in New Zealand,” Mr Greenberg said.

“This is a huge step for the game and I’d like to thank the Clubs involved for their efforts to embrace the concept and ensure the matches eventuated.

“This is also a direct result of us having more control over the Premiership schedule in 2018.

“We have had significant success with double headers at Suncorp Stadium in recent seasons and this is a natural progression.

“It will create more blockbuster events for our fans in 2018.”

All four double headers will be broadcast exclusively on FOX LEAGUE, on Foxtel.

It's a nice way to inflate crowd figures.
I wouldn't go to one personally but would be good for a family or friends that support different teams

My wife and I ( wearing our Manly gear ) had a horrendous experience leaving the double header in Brisbane this year.

Everyone gets on the grog ( it’s a Saturday so not like the usual come after work Friday) from lunch time , so by the end of the second game there’s some very drunk and very agressive opposition fans.

We were pushed, shoved , spat on, my members hat stolen and trashed whilst we we were walking from the ground to meet up with some old MWTS friends at the Hotel LA.

Remember we are grey hair “ old farts” and whilst I could hack it ( to an extent ) I was furious that they were also targeting my wife.

Low, vile, scum.

So sorry, no more double headers in Brisbane for me, in fact I’ll probably downgrade my membership and just stick to watching it on Foxtel these days.

So very well behaved then, for Queenslanders

Typical really , they can’t handle their Bundy!

TBH, I’ve been going to normal games for years , funnily enough on a Friday, and they are much better behaved.

I wouldn’t bother with SOO for the same reason.

But no way from here on, 8-12 hours of solid drinking makes them very very agro!

Or how about another idea,Hows about we play one game of footy in smaller suburban grounds and finish with some home team advantage in the finals ,once again in these same smaller suburban grounds.
It not Rocket surgery !

They make out in the ads that the bear is a top bloke. In reality he is a jerk, and the drink needs to be mixed with sweet soda drinks in order to be palatable.

Ok yes manly the natural home of many qlders.

But how about when the bear scares the Swedish backpackers? And his numerous other con jobs? The biggest con is that rum is nice.

The thread title sounds more like the title of a film festival featuring Greenturd, bunker and the refs rather than an NRL media release...

I don't mind CC but it always gives me a cracking headache. I realise it's the rye in al-co-mo-hol that does it. so alas.... no more CC for me! boo.

I'm surprised there's not Bundy here with all the Aussies around.

Why have we heard nothing out of the MWRLFC in regards to MWSE locking in "home" games in Christchurch, Brisbane and Perth in 2018? What happened to protecting the location, colours and logo of the club? It was my understanding that taking more than 2 home games away from Brookvale Oval had to be passed by a vote by the MWRLFC members??
