Ex-players to be referees

A couple of seasons ago ex-players Paul Mellor, Henry Perenara and Luke Phillips were going to be "fast tracked" into the refereeing ranks. Haven't seen anything else about them since. Have they abandonded the idea or, given the 2 refs this season, will they be putting in an appearance this year?.

Luke Phillips is in the full time squad but he must be down the list to getting a permanent first grade gig.
I think Peranara & Mellor haven't qualified for first grade yet.

There was an episode of NRL summertime about the refs & they were talking about those three.

I have a terrible memory so did anyone else see that show?

If I did I cant remember it - surely they would do a better job than some of the nuffies running around at the moment.

Yep, Phillips is the most advanced of the player refs. He'll do a few Toyota Cup games this year if all goes to plan, but not first grade just yet!

Luke & Paul Mellor are doing the Jim Beam or Bunderberg Cup each week - Luke refs and Mellor is a touchie - they normally work together

Spotted him (Mellor) on the Footy Show last week when 'Percy Le Blanc' was at the refs training.
