A number of NRL stars have got their grounding in NSW Cup, including Canterbury-Bankstown five-eighth Josh Reynolds. The 23-year-old was at the competition launch on Tuesday, as was Sydney Roosters utility Daniel Mortimer, who is trying to tread a similar path after guiding Newtown Jets to the 2012 premiership.
For the first time in NSW rugby league history, the competition will be broadcast nationally as part of the NRL's TV rights deal.
"It's fantastic news and continues the great coverage from Fox Sports over the last decade. To have that exposure this year is tremendous news," he said.
"I think everyone gets a kick out of seeing the reserve grade as it is and seeing the players, watching and seeing who the talented players are in second grade.
"It will give the game a lot more exposure, for the footy fan I think they will sit back on Saturday afternoon and froth at the mouth."
One game will be shown at 1.10pm or 3.10pm every Saturday during the season and finals series, while the grand final will be shown live on Channel 9 as part of the NRL's showcase event at ANZ Stadium on October 6.
The competition will begin on Saturday, March 9 with the first televised game at Parramatta Stadium between Parramatta and Canberra’s feeder sides, Wentworthville and Mounties.
