SEA Eagles star backrower Glenn Stewart has applauded the appointment of Laurie Daley as the new NSW State of Origin coach.

It was announced on Tuesday Daley would take over from Ricky Stuart for the next two seasons with the brief of ending Queensland's domination of the series. It is significant news for Stewart as he has established himself as one of the key players in the Blues' side.
And he has previously played under Daley when he was head coach of Country.
"Laurie is a great choice and he will do a great job," Stewart said. "There probably couldn't have been anyone better continuing what Ricky started the last couple of years.
"He is certainly not going to let anyone down and if I am lucky enough to get picked next year I would love to work with him." Stewart said Daley was professional when he had to be but is a bit more laid-back coach.
"Maybe Ricky is a little bit more intense I would say," he said. "They are different coaches but both good at what they do."
