A win based on guts there. No ball, smashed in the penalties, lost 2 players to injury during the match but still came out on top

Jorge Taufua, I wanna boof him get him up here. What a try to seal it. I think it's fair to say if Brett is on we don't score that try and Soward wins a shootout

Huge effort from Cherry with the ankle tap, and then Wolfman to sprint across and cut off any danger on that play in the final few mins

Hard to give a pass or fail to any of our bench men attack wise, Rose and Hasson weren't on when we had the ball and Tonga out of position on the wing

The refs were absolutely hopeless and mind boggling, 9-3 penalties is a joke. They knocked the ball on a couple of tackles before 1 of their tries, they missed Foran being pulled out of play chasing a charge down, and Jamie gets told "we didn't see it and we can't rely on your word" lol

What we can't let that reffing display over shadow though is some of the poor areas of our play that we need to look at tonight

Offloading - A good offload is a big weapon in the game, but it needs to be controlled, we are just flinging it out the back blind on most occasions, Choc the biggest culprit and Lawrence is always keen too

Discipline - When the refs are on a role against you, we need to try and be squeaky clean, a hand on the ball in the last 5mins is unacceptable when we have a 6pt lead

Defence - Seemed to be a slight tweak to our structure tonight and it was a lot more compressed, and Soward was able to exploit that with long balls, our scramble saved us but it is something we need to look at. I was thinking a lot of it was to do with Symonds playing out of position but Lyon was infield a lot as well

Those were my main areas of concern out of it

Pre match I was concerned about playing Symonds out of position, and although he was solid, I still hold the view that a specialist would do a better job. He was slightly out of position in defence a few times and we lost a lot of his impact with the ball playing him that little bit wider. Happy to see Matai back next week

Another observation for me is that Horo runs nearly the toughest lines of any player in the comp, what a pickup he has been

A lot of good stuff to take out of tonight into next week, gutsy wins like that can give a side huge self belief

Am slightly concerned what that defensive effort may have taken out of our tank and roll into next weeks game, and we will need to improve again to beat the Roosters, but I'm fairly confident we can beat them. Will be the biggest buildup to a game they have had for a while so will be interesting to see how they handle it

Yeah going to be an epic game next week.

Was a gutsy win. dragqueens threw 21 players at us (17 wearing red and white, 4 wearing pink) and we still pulled through.

Go Manly

Appropriate Thread Subject and can't but agree with all that KE said.

I agree with KE on using specialist replacements instead of weakening a strength to cover a weakness.

I thought Wolfy had 2 bad reads in defence which gave the Goons an easier run to the line for 2 tries. Not sure why he's not trusting Lyon on the inside. Lyon is one of the best defending centres in the game. He did however score a nice try.

How good have our offseason pick ups been. Lawrence is a deadset stud. Horo similar.

Tonga came on and did the job! What more can you ask.

Rose has gotta go IMHO. Prefer not to have Big Red playing centre again as well, if it wasn't for Foz we would have conceded there.

Good read KE.

Im dusting off the old "danger game" saying for this week because we are a big chance of going into the featherdusters game with a bumbling approach and a tired bunch of over worked forwards.

Thought long kicking game was good and got us out of trouble a couple of times. However a good long kick is only as good as it's chase, and our kick chase was bloody good tonight I thought. Led by Foran as usual.

I thought Ballins service from dummy half was a little down on standard tonight. He put pressure on some of our runners and also took some bad options. Not a massive criticism just an observation. When the home crowd allow the defensive line that extra 2 or 3m start, smart dummy half play can take some sting out of their defensive sets.

They got around our right edge a couple of times tonight, which is unusual as that Gift / Killer / Wolf combo have plenty of experience. Probably just weight of possession meant something had to give.

Horhay still is heart in the mouth under the high ball.

I was scared when Horhay took the kick off after his try!

2 more points
Weyman never grounded the ball it was put on Jorges leg and the try in the corner by the green dude his feet went out first. But refs only go upstairs for our trys.

I think missing a lot of players tonight will actually work to our advantage next week, assuming King, Matai, Stewart and Buhrer (and anyone else I missed) are back in the side next week that will be a big help.

I thought they were fair tries. It was ballsy that they didn't go to the video ref but they were the right calls.

People can't seriously be touting Tafua for SoO until he consistently catches bombs. Its painful and awfully predictable watching opposition teams direct bombs his way.

I think Manly did enought to win tonight, but I had the feeling at 18-0 they put the cue in the rack and started to preserve themselves for the Roosters game.

But the way the refs stepped in and just found everything they could to gift the Dragons possession - wow - Manly have to be careful, against a team with ability they could get run down. While they didnt look battered and bruised they were absolutely buggered from all the tackling.

I also know we are scraping the botton of the barrell if we see George Rose and Esi Tonga out there.
As one person in this thread pointed out, you can forgive Tonga as he was out of position - but Rose, - wow again - I though he would have a big game just like he did in 2009 at the same ground - but this guy hasn't broken a tackle since the Cronulla comeback game on the bell in 2011. He's done - needs a new jumper.

Extremely harsh view on Rose there when in attack we don't have the ball for him to make an impact with !! Hard to run with it when we are tackling all game and he made a big portion of them. 4 runs for 37m suggests good metres being made.

As i said earlier writing any bench player off after that is crazy coz we were tackling all game. In the limited time he was on he made 24 tackles and missed 0

Hasson is the same, hardly got a run with the ball coz we were tackling our arses off

Not sure how you can judge the impact of a player when you have less than 40% possession

Gutsy? We lost snake for 40 mins and didn't use Jesse so only two rotations for 2nd half and 40% possession means 16 mins of football per half to attack with a 3-9 penalty count! A win is a win is a win, at Win.

George was fine. I thought his attitude was good and he went forward on his limited opportunities.

Cant bag the refs for stitching us up and at the same time bag George for giving away penalties. That last 5th tackle penalty was a joke.
