March 19, 2008 MANLY Sea Eagles have announced a two-year extension to coach Des Hasler's contract, thereby retaining his services until the end of the 2010 season.

Hasler is in his fifth consecutive season as coach and has lifted the Sea Eagles from 13th in 2004 to the semi-finals in the past three seasons, including an appearance in last year's grand final.

The 47-year-old coach has been the spearhead behind Manly's return to one of the best teams in the NRL.

"I am delighted that the Board and owners have seen fit to extend my time at the club as head coach," Hasler said.

"The role is something I enjoy, with an outstanding staff to work with and an excellent group of players who want to achieve.

"When I first took over the job I asked for patience from the club and the fans - that has been afforded me and I am most grateful.

Sea Eagles chairman Scott Penn said the continuation of Hasler's coaching period at Manly gave the maroon and whites real stability.

"Des Hasler was a great player and he has already proven he is one of the best young coaches in the NRL," Penn said.

"To have one of our former players come through the system and continue the wonderful tradition in this club is most satisfying.

"We are confident he is the person to deliver our seventh premiership."
