2012 therefore is shaping up as yet another potential leap year/premiership combo. And then the world will end in December and we will remain the NRL premiers in perpetuity.
Every dark cloud has a silver lining.

Leap year stats are interesting, but not sure it is as one sided as you think. You are right in that no one has more than 4 leap year premierships. Unfortunately there are a 4 on 4.
Manly 4
Tigers 4 (Balmain tigers)
Souths 4
Dogs 4
Easts 3
Saints 3
Wests 2
Brisbane 2
So you could spin it another way. Since 1972 only the Dogs, Manly and Brisbane have won during a leap year.
Back to back Leap year premierships are very common as well...
1916 Tigers
1920 Tigers
1924 Tigers
1928 Souths
1932 Souths
1936 Easts
1940 Easts
1948 Wests
1952 Wests
1956 Dragons
1960 Dragons
1964 Dragons
1972 Manly
1976 Manly
1980 Dogs
1984 Dogs
1988 Dogs
Dont beat yourself up as they did their run in the last century.Phantar said:Five minutes after I wrote my post I remembered that the Dogs had won four of their eight premierships during leap years...
....bugger!
