Hamstring injury sidelines Gasnier

May 29, 2008 ST George Illawarra and NSW centre Mark Gasnier is in extreme doubt for the second Origin match in Brisbane after being ruled out for up to three weeks with a hamstring injury.

Scans taken of the injury showed a slight tear in Gasnier's left hamstring which he suffered in his first few strides at training yesterday.

The Dragons skipper is definitely out of this weekend's NRL clash against South Sydney and with less than two weeks before Origin II in Brisbane on June 11, Gasnier is rated next to no chance of taking on the Maroons.

He would have been a certain inclusion in the Blues team if fit after starring in NSW's 18-10 win in the opening encounter of the series.

The NSW side for the June 11 clash at Suncorp Stadium will be named on Tuesday.

Blues selectors have several options at their disposal for game two should Gasnier be ruled out with Manly centre Jamie Lyon the most likely candidate to fill the berth.

Winger Josh Morris will come into the centres against the Bunnies with young Kiwi winger Chase Stanley earning a reprieve on the wing after a dismal performance against Manly last week.

Dragons coach Nathan Brown said star recruit Wendell Sailor would not be making his comeback to the NRL this weekend, with next week's round 13 game against Brisbane still his most likely return date.

Start calling him Tampon, in for 1 week out for 3

Only really see Lyon as the serious contender, or maybe Monaghan or Lewis as outsiders

so now we may have 3 reps for SOO2, and if anything happens to Wallace Maybe Orford too
we play the chooks the week before as well

He hasn't even played centre for Penrith this year.

2 games at halfback and 2 in the second row.

But he's playing outstanding football at the moment, and the fact that they brought him into camp in the first place shows that he is in the selectors minds.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if he was the one given the call-up.
