Hi all,

Just finalizing servers I have found a decent server in Perth or Sydney and would value some time from you who can download this 100MB file and let me know download times

http://118.127.40.11/~speedtfi/100mb.test

Cheers
Dan

cheers. yeah don't do 4g its 100MB file just do it at home, latency should be very low for you guys, not so great for us expats but not terrible either. Took me 5 minutes.

For those with the tech know-how

can you please ping 118.127.36.5

and let me know the average reply time?

min=247ms max=299ms ave=268ms

http://118.127.40.11/~speedtfi/100mb.test = 6 minute:11secs

wow that is terrible. Australian peer networking is just atrocious. They could really do with untangling the entire thing

looks like we are going with a server in LA. Ironic that a server in America has a faster route to Australia that a Sydney or Perth server. That is how tangled the system is there. My guess is that the one out of Perth is linked to the other side of Australia via Singapore

Thanks you for your concern :sleepy:

'Telstra CRM' is actually an oxymoron :mad:

Why are we testing 100mb - is it for all my emoticons:s
I wouldn't have thought that we would be grabbing 100 mbytes per thread :huh:

because a 10mb file only gives a very limited picture of latency. 100Mb is a significantly large enough file that I can tell what the overall latency will be.

If we use a 10mb file it may stall for the first few Mb whilst it gathers its connection.

Kind of like testing a car, if you start the engine and turn it off straight away you don't get a good picture of the motors warm running

ha its not my file, its one released by the companies for testing latency.

I was about to pull the trigger on Sydney hosting last night because I though there is no way it will be slower than the LA one, but that is amazing

We are so pathetic for bandwidth in Oz, that I notice after 3pm, when the kids in the neighbourhood come home, the speed noticeably slows :s

Its 8pm when I did the test, so again its a serious deterioration of throughput.

The other tests were done 5am - 7am, so they would have given you false hope :)

Tests run around 11pm 20/05/14, on ADSL 8192/384 kbps home service:

---

100mb.test:

Dload #1: 2:00
Dload #2: 2:15

In both cases the throughput strangely paused for a few seconds around 1/3 of the way through, and markedly dropped in speed briefly about 4/5 of the way through.

Ping 118.127.36.5:

Min = 27ms, Max = 28ms, Ave = 27ms

Just did it then and it only took 51 secs.

Don't know anything about pinging so can't help you there.

@Dan Optus wiFi 4G - 4:30am Sydney

Download 56 secs

Ping min=27ms max=43ms ave=33ms

Magnitude of ten difference from the test at Peaktime of 8pm last night.

This aptly demonstrates the bandwidth scam running in Oz for mobile broadband :mad:
