Haven't been overly impressed with this guy. Has a bit of mongrel about him and can tackle though.
Wonder if it was a "straight swap" or we are saving a bit of $.

I like Bani a lot. Injuries dampened his rise though and more could have come of him.

But if he's happy then I am happy.

Good luck to him!

I am happy for Bani to go, has been less than impressive. Maybe a new club and being closer to his family will help his game. Good luck to him.

I am actually upset that Bani is going. I think with a bit more rehab & fitness he could get back to where he was the other year. Then with a bit more experience in 1st grade he has the capability of being a great winger. I hope this doesn't come back to bite us on the arse. But good luck to him and obviously family is important to him.

he is not someone you would let go if you didnt have to but in this case it sounds like a good move for us.

I still say he's the most talented winger we have at the club. He's not fit at the moment though, and it probably didn't do his confidence any good playing at less than 100% (or 80% or whatever most players take the field at these days).

I don't see any huge advantage at picking up Farrar. I've never known him to play fullback. He's always been a five-eighth, who filled in at centre. But lack of openings there pushed him onto the wing at the Cowboys. He's been capable there.

I seriously would consider this a backwards step. If Bani goes to ensure we secure the likes of Foran/JWH, then it is a necessary decision to make. But why swap Bani for a less talented player?

He is an ex eel (from 2006) what odd's crusher had his eye on him......

I agree with this but Bani has had a lot of injury and maybe his body isn't up to NRL. At his best he is sensational.

Farrar played under 19's for NSW at centre. Im pretty sure he played most of his junior footy at centre.

Some info

Ben Farrar is a 20 year old centre who is in his 2nd year with the Parramatta Eels. Ben has represented New South Wales at under 17 level as well as NSW Combined Catholic Colleges. Ben has impressed Cowboys Recruitment Manager Peter Jones every time he has seen him play.

We need a backup centre/5 8th. I personally believe he's a backup for Lyon and Mattai or even Bailey.

Neuman might be next to go?

Matai may be out for a while with his ankle injury and this may be a good replacement. God knows we are thin on the ground for decent centres

Is there some new info Dan ?

Initial reports were a couple of weeks with ligiment damage, while Hasler said in an interview it was just a cork

I don't know the last time you corked your ankle, but I know mine has never been corked. The way he was walking looked more like an ankle issue than a cork. We all know Des just likes playing ducks and drakes

We were always going to be thin on the decks for backs this year with the loss of Bell. Neumann has not stepped up and Suniula is green and soft despite playing in the centres for Sunny Coast. I hope a few of the youngsters come through. We haven't got many more weeks to drop!

I would have thought because Farrar is a multi positional player ? We have issues all amongst the backs.

Bani was always considered a specialist winger and we know he didnt make the cut to FB. Farrar could be considered for a number of positions (although FB doesnt appear to be one of them to us uneducated  ;))

This has a lot to do who goes and how to fill the construct of the next phase.

If he couldnt make a position for himself in the starting 13 I wonder if he might have some potential to be a bench utility ? (you know...one without the same jink show and dummy of LeSnack).

Agree with posters about indigenous players that sometimes they 'pine for the fjords' a bit and are more comfortable closer to family. I would have liked to see him have a go at full back but the coaching staff didn't see it that way. he was an elegant mover and looked to have alot of potential. definitely appeared to playing under confidence and injured lately.

we certainly need some cover for centre/wing/fb so farrar might be a good pickup.

if sharks are folding we should grab pomeroy.....
