Winging it

WHETHER it was enough to solve the conundrum over the State of Origin captaincy remains to be seen, but Jamie Lyon's standout performance in Manly's crushing win over Cronulla yesterday certainly gave chief Blues selector Bob McCarthy and his colleagues plenty to mull over.

No way will Merritt get a wing spot.

Some will have you believe its because he's aboriginal, reality is he is a poor defensive winger.

Bird or Carney will be 5/8.

Lyon centres with Jennings and the Morris boys on the wings.

We will be missing Lyon, Choc, G Stewart.

There was some talk that Carney would have a run at 5/8 for city country.

Is Hayne a certainty to be in the 1? After tonights game, could Dugan be a darkhorse for the 1 with Hayne moving to the wing? Thoughts

Hopefully Hayne will get injured just before Origin and spare the selectors the awkwardness of having to drop the best player in the galaxy.

Hayne has a lock on the 1, he thrives in a decent team.

Carney will be on the bench doing the role Gidley couldnt last season, and unfortunatley Bird will be the 5/8.

Pre game "bonding sessions" could be interesting.

Spot on Clont about the 1-5, its how it should be, with Carney #14, Bird 5/8th and Ennis Hooker.
