A footnote on a story in the SMH June 12.

AND ANOTHER THING …

How about some of the young talent coming out of Manly? Kieran Foran, Daly Cherry-Evans, Will Hopoate, Jamie Buhrer and Michael Oldfield. All of them are talented, respectful and well spoken. A credit to their coach, club and family. Almost enough to make you want to stop hating Manly. Almost.

I think they need to start glassing a few more people whilst setting them on fire & then weeing on them to put the fire out. Just to let them know who's boss. Other than that, no complaints.

What these idiots won't acknowledge is that aside from Watmough and Matai it has always been this way. Even our "despised" side in the 1990s were primarily cleanskins, though they had plenty of mongrel on the field, like the current team.

Noone has hated Manly because our players are dicks, like the roosters and Bulldogs. They have hated our high rate of success - the politics of envy.

Des has often said, this club breeds model citizens and leaders, not footballers. His objective is make sure that the players are aware of their obligations both to the side and to society. All in all, this works apart for a couple of "meatheads" that we have in our ranks,

Envy that is all the more potent when the players show grace, humility and good character off the pitch. I must say that at times before I knew it was all a crock I was envious of the Storms roster - their rate of success, certainly their ability, but not the culture, not the attitude and not the character of the team.

We however minus a few blemishes have the real deal, great onfield and respectable off it. And for this reason we will be all the more hated, and I for one say bring it on.

After all being hated certainly did nothing to make Beaver any less a legend of our game, any less a role model for children where so many of his peers failed and a any less an example of everything that a NRL player should be.

Bring it on!

And Matai has done a Gallen and cleaned himself up big time, so he's in the same books as these young guys. Choc and Seu Seu are the current problem but that doesn't mean that they won't change either. This call up to the Blues might be just what Choc needs.

Apparently Melbourne never breached the salary cap to the tune of $1 million plus, the Dishlickers and Rorters players never engaged in anti-social activities or Souths didn't have a prominent player on their books (circa 80s/90s) who was rumoured to be involved in some serious gay bashings leading to at least one death. Whilst the latter club, along with Easts, Canterbury, the old Wests et al, have never tried to 'buy a premiership'. Don't get me started on Brisbane - and yet we are apparently deserving of the title - 'most hated club'. Pathetic.

Absolutely. Seu Seu was always a stop gap & should be gone next year. Choc is also running out of lives as he approaches 30. When you're getting paid that much as you approach the downside of your career you better not give your club any reason to flick the switch & get rid of you for a younger player.

All said though, Des has built a fantastic playing group, arguably the best in the NRL. That is one thing that Bennett will never best him in, even if people don't want to accept it,

Talking about Gerry Seu Seu, where is he? he hasn't been seen since that incident with Choc? has he already been cut by the club?

He's been playing NSW cup, has been starting while Liam Higgins has been injured.

The drop off from Le Strange to Seu Seu has been immense, would love to get the Stranger Danger back.

Stevie Matai is a lovely fell-a true family man and genuine human being. I met his family at the 08 celebrations night and he was like a little boy in font of them. Legend!!!
