NRL 2016: Incredible number of players missing for round one through injury or suspension
League fans have been starved of action for a good few months now, but just as the anticipation is reaching its peak, the stars are tumbling with 32 players on the sidelines in round one.
Incredibly, that is only considering players who are expected to be named in their respective teams’ best 17 for round one.
Bulldogs prop David Klemmer became the latest name on the list on Wednesday night, joining seven other bad boys suspended for at least the opening round.
The number of suspended stars jumps to nine if you count Roosters co-captain Mitchell Pearce, who has been stood down by the club for disciplinary reasons.
Across the board charges have increased on previous seasons with the NRL cracking down on dangerous behaviour to stamp it out of the game.
