RISING Broncos under 20s player Matt Berwick is in a coma at a Brisbane hospital following a car accident last night.

Berwick, a Toyota Cup centre and Queensland Schoolboys representative, was involved in a serious accident on Thursday evening.

"Our under-20s player Matt Berwick was involved in car accident last night,'' Broncos CEO Paul White said in a statement.

"Matthew is in a serious but stable condition. The Broncos have staff with the family (and) are giving them and Matt their full support.

"The club and Matt's family understand and appreciates both the concern and the support being offered at this time. We ask that the family is now given the appropriate space and privacy to allow Matt to begin his recovery."

Berwick, who turned 19 just last week, is studying for a degree in Exercise and Movement Science.

He only recently signed a contract extension with the Broncos and is viewed as a promising talent for the future.

Berwick once scored four tries in an under 20s victory over North Queensland last year and bagged a double in the Broncos loss to Canberra last weekend.

Let's hope he makes a full and speedy recovery.
