Classy Sea Eagles On The Move

THE dangerous Sunshine Coast Sea Eagles have soared into the Queensland Cup’s top six after holding off a determined fightback from the Mackay Cutters.

The Sea Eagles prevailed 26-22 at the Mackay Junior Fields on Saturday night to register their fourth successive victory.

Brandon Costin’s side has shown tremendous character to claw their way back into the competition after a spate of narrow losses in the opening half of the season.

The Sunshine Coast skipped away to a commanding 26-10 lead in the 68th minute against the Cutters following a try to speedy fullback Dennis Sandow and Trent Hodkinson conversion.

But the locals refused to surrender and when Dean Tass crossed in the 68th minute, the Cutters were suddenly full of running.

The deficit was cut back to four points in the 77th minute when Daniel Abraham converted Todd Seymour’s try.

The try set up a grandstand finish and brought the crowd to life.

However, the Cutters could not land the try they desperately craved, despite a scintillating run from Donald Malone that put them deep into the Sunshine Coast’s territory.

The Sunshine Coast made a blistering start to Saturday’s round 14 clash, with tries from Cameron Joyce and Ryan Walker handing the visitors a 10-0 lead after as many minutes.

The Sea Eagles went on to take a 14-10 lead into the half-time break.

The competition newcomers will now look to carry their red-hot form into this Saturday’s ABC TV match of the round against the Pride at Stockland Park.

Meanwhile, the Burleigh Bears defeated the Norths Devils 24-16 at Bishop Park yesterday to maintain their grip on fourth spot.

The Bears led 14-10 at half-time and did enough in the second half to hold off the Matt Gillett-inspired Devils outfit.

Adam Fielder grabbed a double for the Bears, while Marty Paulson, Joel Rapana and Scott Smith also crossed the line for the visitors.

Paulson had a solid game at fullback after being named to replace Nick Parfitt, who was dropped to FOGS Cup.

Burleigh hosts the last-placed Mackay Cutters at Pizzey Park this Saturday, while the Devils are at home to the improving Wynnum Manly Seagulls.
