Sack Seibold

It’s just a bizarre point you are trying to make. Some will say manly are forcing these teams to be off their game, others like yourself put it to pure luck that they decided not to turn up. That’s just opinion.

What I do know for facts is Cowboys had 4 wins on the trot, a 4 point loss to 3rd placed warriors then a draw with Penrith. So that’s 4-1-1 in their last 6 before playing us & we smoked them at their own home ground. Good luck finding better form then that over the same period apart from raiders who we beat convincingly earlier in the year.
Mate, he has just put forward his own opinion that most of our wins have come against teams who were playing poorly or out of form. Broncos were badly out of form, so were the Panthers. The Eels were down at the bottom of the table, and the Cows went 1 draw three losses up until the week after we played them. Our other wins came at the beginning of the season which always throws out some surprising results as teams begin their long campaigns towards finals footy. So, his argument does have merit. It's not craziness. Your argument has merit also. It's why we debate etc our opinions.

Cheers mate. I would just make the point that we had 2 wins in the first 7 rounds, both at home, one against the cowboys who were absolutely dreadful that night (I was there). The other was against the raiders, where both teams had a dig and we played well, but we certainly got some favourable ref calls that night.

I really don’t see what is so controversial about saying that apart from maybe that early raiders game, we haven’t had a win which stamps us as serious contenders. I’d imagine the players and coach would say the same thing. When we have been tested by serious top 4 contenders, we have been found wanting (eg warriors, storm, sharks).

No doubt we got the rub of the green against the Raiders. The sin bin was ridiculous.

I can usually tell if a team is on by watching the game. If you look at the match day threads for most of our wins, you will find plenty of comments about how **** house the opposition was. I’d like to think we forced them into playing poorly, but that might be over egging it. When the opposition has turned up to play, we have generally been found wanting eg warriors, storm, eels, dragons. The only exception I can see is the raiders, and even the most one eyed manly supporter could see we got the rub of the green that night.

Put it another way. Which of our wins gave you confidence we are genuine title contenders?
Our best performance was against Penrith. We find that form consistently, the way the comp is this year I’m confident we can compete with and beat most teams.

Personally I agree that is was a reasonable argument from your behalf

Bozo what have you been smoking?

I’ll tell you what’s funnier - your post. Me and biff are having a chuckle about it right now.
Mate, you have to get @47MVEagle to tell you the tale about all the old blokes and their gun hooker sons (none of whom ever played grade) who steered clear of Manly when Bozo was here. Your bullshiit metre will completely max out. Bloody hilarious!

Fair enough, and yes we were good against Penrith, although they were running last at the time I think. As you say, consistency is what we need, so here’s hoping we can go on a run.

Can’t be arsed to be honest. One thing that really gets my goat are heroes that get on here and slag off absolute legends of this club like Bozo, Des and Jake. I just don’t get it.

The facts are...
We are 7th out of 17 teams after 13 rounds, with one (edit: two!) byes to come.
Our points differential is 4th. We are equal 5th in points scored, equal 5th for least points conceded.
Our highest paid player has played 7 of 12 games this year. He has 1 try this season so far.
Our captain has announced that he isn't playing here next year.
We have used 26 players so far this season. Of the 5 other teams who have used 26 or more players, only the Bulldogs are in front of us on the ladder.

As for the opinion... I am not sure anyone could look at those statistics and say that we are threatening for a premiership or for a wooden spoon. I don't think the suggestion that we only win when the other team is out of form is fair either.

The coach still gets a pass from me, for now...

Yes, they are all facts, but none of them refute the opinion that we only win when the other team is poor.

Two byes to come, both in the next 6 rounds, along with 4 winnable games. Could be 12 points and we are in the top 4.
But how many of those games will we win? Noone has the slightest idea, because the coaching staff (not just the head coach) cannot get the team performing with any consistency.

Yeah, the lack of consistency is key. There’s every chance we follow up a great performance against the Broncos with an absolute shocker against the Knights. It’s frustrating as hell, and it must frustrate Seibold and the coaching staff as well, because I’m pretty sure they’d be aiming to have the boys playing at their best and not their worst. The variance from week to week is mind boggling.

If they can string a few wins together - two, three, or even four! - the confidence will come, for the players as well as the fans. But it’s a big if.
