Sipley and Perrett

Bad luck for Tanganoa and Peseka last night means a golden opportunity for Sipley and Perrett. Front rowers usually take a few years to develop and these two both should be just about ready to show what they've got. They will now get a walk-up start to kick off in top grade and set themselves up for a break-through season. Hopefully one at least will take this chance and kick on. I've certainly seen glimpses of ability from both of them in the past.

Perrett has the skills but the attitude, particularly in defence. ? Can Des get him to go up a cog?. Difficult one as Des punted him from the Dogs.

Haven’t seen enough of Sipley to judge but always seems to be carrying a bit of pudding. But some players need that.He will have to step up if we are to win games though. Our bench looks paper thin now.

Tanginoa (again) is a big loss for a club so lacking in depth.

Serious question here:
Why haven't we got the same depth as most clubs?
I know we are down $300,000 or so in the cap this season but this really would only pay for one average first grader.
I know about Easts and the salary cap rorts, but how do Newcastle, for instances, have such a strong roster, or Illawarra, Cronulla, Souffs . . .
Is the salary DCE receiving the highest in the NRL?

I think it’s pretty simple

Comes down to identifying the right players. When we were successful we did it well. Our backups were good honest first graders.
There are plenty of good players at successful clubs on the same money as guys at our club but were identified as being of a first grade standard and achieved that. Most of ours haven’t reached that level.
Barrett assembled our team over three years. He signed our fringe guys and some are just not good enough. Des/ Crusher were better than good at it last time. We just have to trust they’ll repeat that when refreshing the roster.

Perrett needs to find consistency.
Can have a blinder one week, then invisible for the next month.

Hopefully Des can get some confidence/self belief into him, which I personally think may be the problem.

Depends how bad their knee injuries are. No word so far just praying no torn acl

May as well try Frank Winterstein as a prop next week . Think that Perrett's health scare has set him back a bit , if he can get some confidence back and some good game involvement and try to utilize his undoubted off loading ability , then he could still offer some value . Sipley just needs to go hard , a big unit , he should be able to provide some decent input , has an off load too but like Perrett needs to put in a determined effort when he is on the paddock and with some improved line speed .

Perretts future lies in ESL where he will do better in the cold

Sipley shows a lot of enthusiasm and hopefully is much fitter this year

For various reasons, we haven't been an attractive destination for a number of years and have been reduced to picking up the scraps on the player market. Sometimes that can work. Other times you end up with… well, scraps. In the NRL, as elsewhere, you really do get what you pay for. Just ask the Roosters.

This is definitely part of it, out facilities and front office are not doing us any favours meaning we are not competitive with a lot of clubs.

Our owners are also very good golfers which hurts us as well.

To make us more attractive we should instruct our recruitment team to target promising footballers who also surf!

Amone deserves a shot. Peret suffered from his health concerns last year. Lussick would have added some starch and penalties in 2018. And a bloke called Hastings looked pretty crisp in our flogging of parra. Tanginoa will heal himself by next week. Waddell and go jet ski mean winter Stein can step up. Front row isn’t a hard spot to play, tough, but if you have someone with knowledge of the game you can fill your role.

Amone has gone to Souffs for his shot

Another season of puppy dog perrett and "25minutes before I bother to make a run "winterstein
Fantastic. Love des, but can only polish a turd so much

He is quality, we have seen what Des has done with the likes of Bryant and Hall in the past, Tof has plenty left in him which we will see as he gets extended minutes. He nearly scored at the end and apparently in reserve grade he would always barge over the top of people from close range to score
