I think another thing helping Manly's cause is the knowledge that it's not the coach who wants to offload some of them. That power was taken away from Geoff before the start of the year, presumably as part of the Penn family's efforts to 'ringbark' Toovey's career.
So there is no resentment towards the coach on the part of people like Willie, Ballin, Starling, Mateo, Hasson, Horo, et al - who are really putting in a big effort. As opposed to what happened at Parramatta a few years ago, after the 'Rickynado' ripped through that club.
No doubt too, they collectively feel partly responsible for the coach's demise, horror injury run earlier in the year notwithstanding, and are now trying to make up for it.
