It's a funny thing, the way players respond to their captain putting a rocket up them. You get a captain like Thurston who is not afraid to yell and scream at his players and they seem to respond. He is also not afraid to "confront" the refs as well, and by "confront" I mean yell, piss and moan like a petulant child, still not get the result he was after and stomp off in a huff.
Then you get a captain like Cam Smith. He confronts the ref in the same manner as DCE. He doesn't need to yell and scream at his players and make a spectacle of himself. The storm players seem to respond to Smith's disappointment in them, more so than his anger at their mistakes. They know they have stuffed up. They know their captain is quietly dirty at them for it and they usually lift their game to make up for their stuff up.
I guess a truly professional team would be one that has a captain that is almost like a father figure and gets the full and unquestioned respect from his side. A captain the players want to impress and a leader that seems cool, calm, and collected under pressure.
I think DCE is on the right track. The last thing I'd want to see when things aren't going our way is a captain that starts screaming and carrying on like an idiot. The only players that respond whole heartedly to that sort of crap are idiots themselves. Look at blokes like Klemmer and how he puffs himself up when Graham starts having a little whinge. It usually results in penalties, send offs or worse...suspension. Plus, you've just pissed the ref off and made a target of yourself for future games.
I like DCE the way he is.
