Souths get Burgess

Having a good pack and doing something with the ball are two different things.  They will miss Wing's steadying influence and insightful and intelligent play.  They've had good forwards in the past and done nothing.  I really can't see them making the eight with the number 7 in their lineup.  I predict another crap year for them.  Sort of like the Panthers.  Huge strong forwards, Start strong but but deliver sfa at the money end of the season.

Burgess has received as much hype as Dallas rennie.  Lets hope that he turns out to be as good as Rennie.

Does the fees count towards the cap - Gallop please explain

The release fee does count in souths salary cap for next year.

But anyone who doesn't believe that Crowe has paid the club and Burgess cash under the table is a fool.

This is the same guy who told Guluvao to retire and now he is playing in a Grand Final and being a star performer.

Taylor will struggle without Lockyer and Wallace

Ross has a major neck inury

Burgess has no NRL experience and Souths will expect him to perform. Watch him get smashed week to week before returning home.

Asotasi has been playing good footy but will be coming back from a major knee injury.

Crocker well enough said.

The Bunnies will struggle but they will do better with Lang at the helm than Jason Taylor.

Teams with big, dominant packs tend to do well. No pack is going to enjoy facing Souths next year.

I don't think anyone enjoyed facing our big pack this year but interesting that neither grand final team has what could be classed as a big pack. Sign of the times?

I think plenty of teams enjoyed facing our pack. We didn't aim up all year, and it was a giant reason behind our lack of success.

I understand your point re: big packs, but the Storm pack isn't small. They're carrying something like six specialist props into the game this weekend (Lima, White, Blair, Tolman, Tandy, Anderson). Dallas Johnson isn't big, but that is still a big, big pack....

spot on willstyles, storm pack is basically a set of front rowers, one running backrower and a tackling machine; having at least 4 performing wrecking balls is still key. We had 2 (3 at best) this year.

rabbits:
as already noted burgess is untried in nrl. ellis turned out a good player for tigers this year; but basically as a solid tackler and yards man. burgess will have to perform as a grunt before he can think about fancy off loads or making breaks and linking up with running backs like he can do fairly easily in superleague. he could do it but it won't be easy, and it will take him some time.

dave taylor, likes to attack, not so keen on defense; could be a double edged sword. might be good to attack souths behind the ruck next season.

Who knows how it will turn out but if we had signed Burgess there would be many on here crowing at the prospect, and with some good reason.

Exactly. Rated a hot prospect and would have been a good get.
