Don't know how they did it but k foran was in our first grade side by the end of 2009.

Best thing about that is 2011, 2012 and 2013 is the first we had the same halves combo since the mid 90s with tooves and cliffy

Andrew Walker, had trouble finding the try line but found many others.
A great list and you can see how we built to the gf in 07 and then 08.

Wolfie has always been in the number 5 - change the 2013 line up CC.
Killer has always been in the number 3 - change the 2009 line up CC.

I always wonder why Manly have 3 and 5 playing on the right side, whilst other Teams seem to have the 4 and 5

Basically, the same Manly backline has been enthralling us for the last 6 years

Great work Chip and Chase!

Forgot how late G Stewart was to hold a permanent spot in first grade.

Shows too how classy young Snake was. A lot of talented kids put in with a team of lesser lights that Manly had in 04 and 05 would have got lost in the clean out or lost all confidence. Snake was instead a standout.

As i stated above

- Dual positions are listed in order of number of appearances not by actual jumper number played in. i.e. Centre No. 3 played more games than Centre No. 4

Numbering is purely on who plays the most games in that position in that season. Therefore Winger No. 2 played more games than Winger No. 5

@Cambo, Foz only played 8 games in 2009, not enough to get him into the top 17 that season

Great list to look through, really shows how the recruitment/retention worked toward the 07 onwards to make such a golden era.

Thought Joppa junior may have figured above the wolf in 11 but I guess he played centre and fullback a lot then.

We were a few chromosomes short in those seasons immediately after the NE debacle, that slowed the evolutionary process somewhat.

Yep, he played pretty much the bulk of the season but in all those 3 spots. 11 as winger, and Wolf had 12 games. Unlucky, as he would be in your best 17 that year any day of the week.

To come from where we were took a great deal of planning and hard work, and full credit to all concerned (including He Who We No Longer Revere). It could never happen overnight.

Key steps were:

MM in 2004 - a level below top shelf, but still an important addition who consistently showed guts and commitment

BK and BK in 2005 - especially BK #1 back then

Orford in 2006 - touch of class and organisation

Killer Lyon in 2007 – a real champion, last piece of the puzzle

Other signings were also significant, such as Bell and Perry, but I always look back to those 5 key signings and how they guaranteed we stayed on an upward curve that very quickly attained an unstoppable momentum. It was fantastic to see Manly so quickly restored to our rightful spot at the top of the heap. Go Manly!

Those games played says it all.

53 games less for our top 17 this year compared to last year and last year includes 2 weeks (up to 34 games) of finals so closer to 80 games more missed from our top 17 in each position, or 3 more missing per week.

and that doesn't include shoe in players like BJ and Buhrer this year and we had a few out the last 5 weeks or so last year as well.

Would be interesting to see the numbers for 2008, 2011 to compare.

Exactly.

I remember having a discussion with some mates that in their day were Manly juniors when BK #1 signed. My argument was ( and still is ) that you can really only judge the merit of a signing once they've finished that contract.
So with 2 Premierships in 8 years and not to mention his off field traits and doing his rep stuff with Tonga and Aust, Kite shouldn't be underestimated - and should be a shoe in for our 70 year team.

BK #2 - There is no question why and what he was signed for and his legacy lives on. The fact that he made our 60 year team speaks volumes.

In my opinion both BK's and Lyon have been our marquee recruits during their time.

Strategic recruitment that lives on.

Updated with 2016 team.

Honourable mentions for interchange bench were Addin Fonua-Blake and Blake Leary, both with 14 appearances.

Centre was an interesting one this year, not surprising given Lewis Brown made the cut in that spot. Following players played centre this year

Lyon - 11
Brown - 10
Matai - 8
Williame - 8
T Turbo - 4
Walker - 4
Wright - 3
