The Penriff Leaker

Bill Hamilton

Reserve Grader
Hi All,

Back in early July I went to a mates 55th out Penriff way and bumped into a bloke I shall now call The Leaker and he told me some interesting stuff. To remind you all here is the thread.

https://silvertails.net/threads/sack-barrett.54811/page-20#post-1047336

Anyhow, I have spent the evening out at the 'riff again having a beer or two with my mate and The Leaker turned up. I mentioned how close his info was and we got chatting. Now The Leaker had a few beers and he started to get chatty and he told me a story of woe.

He knows (I'll throw in an allegedly here) of 3 senior players at the 'riff who are very unhappy, one an ex rooster/shark, one an ex dragon and one an ex cowboy, they didn't like the way Griff got shafted, and Gus' hands on approach of late (time for another allegedly), he also said that the eternal rookie is (allegedly) still in play out Penriff way, but were waiting for the off season to announce anything.

He did tell me names, which I wont use here as I promised The Leaker I wouldn't, but you don't have to be a genius to crack my brilliant code.

Only time will tell if The Leaker is right like he was last time.

Ah Gus the gift that keeps on giving!

I'm starting to think this whole mess is because Gus wanted Barrett, and Barrett wanted Gus, and it's still happening, and everyone else is being taken for a ride , INCLUDING Cleary from The Tigers.

If that's the case, then what Trent has done is actually worse than that of Des Hasler (who both left after winning a Grand Final, AND after Penn and his cronies instituted those famous K.P.I.'s).

It will speak mountains about Trent Barrett's true character (and hopefully the players hate him for it). I just feel the mercenary nature of rugby league is both tolerated and accepted as the norm though now, and it will mean nothing to the playing group.

While I DO agree that Trent deserves better facilities and staff, I'm starting to believe guys, this is all an act to get him in Panthers colours and the rest of the world is being fed proverbial sausage rolls as Peter Peters would say.

We'll see this off season. If Trent ends up at Penrith, we've all to a tee (owners, front office, playing group, fans, sponsors, the club) have been made suckers of by Gus and Barrett, and are probably very stupid to have bought it.

I think you're bang on there Ryan, Penn's response the other day almost confirms it.

As soon as Gould categorically denied Barrett would end up at the Panthers, I knew that's where he was going.
So many people warned me here as well. Guess I'm just hopeful and naive there is still some class and character in the world.

Should have trusted my Sea Eagle family than that slimey prick. Guess we'll wait and see.

After my avid support for him over these past three years, it will absolutely hurt, and piss me off at the same time.
I supported him too and I’m not hurt - just pissed off. And I’m more pissed off for repeatedly giving him chances to prove himself as a coach than for him bailing out to be Gus’ bitch.

At least we know if he goes to the Riff there is a chance of repeating one of my favourite games ever because if we know anything about a Baz coached side, he can blow any lead:

Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles came from 26-6 down after 51 minutes to win 36-26 against the Penrith Panthers on 29 May 2005 at Brookvale Oval.

We (Manly) were very stupid to sign the bloke with his coaching record. Absolute garbage. Unfortunately he came in and tore the guts out of our culture to put his stamp on it and In the process ruined the place. Got rid of Ballin, Buhrer, Gutherson all good culture players that loved the club, brought in lewis Brown, took a whole year to realise that Nathan Green was a reserve grader at best. Honestly I can think of nothing good that he brought to the club, nothing!. I predicted this when they announced it and it was exactly right.

Mate, I was at that game and left early with the ****s!! Hahahaha. @Dan warned me while watching me leave.

I'll never make that mistake again. I got home and was like WTF. Media saying one of the best and most historic comebacks ever.

DOH!!!

Showed me what a pea heart and pussy I was hahaha.

But agree on the Barrett front there mate on every single level. It will have meant that Irish guy Carney, and Penn was right, in that Barrett lacks quality, and is not of Manly culture.

Good points mate, and I guess all I can do is apologise. I just wanted to get behind him and give him a go. I guess that's also why I'm adamantly against Cartwright getting the gig now. Once bitten, twice shy as they say.

It would be the same people more or less, just with different name plates in their offices.

I'd be happy with Cartwright remaining under Henry, if that's what the club wants, but we need Singe back to whip guys like Suli, M. Wright, Sipley and others right into shape.

Bring back the calves blood!!

We all knew it was over for the riff when BK made a beautiful break up the middle - classic BK. Was there with a riff supporter mate and even when they were up by 20 he was nervous. Then when we started piling the points on he took it as a fait accompli that they would lose. Kind of like us now.

LOL. Was Sam Harris in that team, and did he have a blinder of a game?
