The Positive Thread

Ola only out for 6 weeks ,and hopefully only miss 4 matches ,so not the season
Doesn't have to get surgery which is not only good for us but good for the fact the gf/wife who's about to give birth doesn't have the stress of giving birth and managing him getting surgery as well and 6 weeks for him to spend more quality time with his newborn and hopefully help his wife but will probably pull out the injured shoulder excuse a few times.... anyways sorry... positivity!!

I’m just as disappointed as everyone else with the latest results but wanted to create a space where we could share positive commentary and take a break from the negativity.

Positive comments ONLY please.

I’ll start:

  • Lehi is back next week
  • Turbo has a LOT of upside that we haven’t seen this year yet
  • We have 2 byes in the next month, which could leave us in or around the top 8 and all may not be lost
  • Walsh seems to be impressing people in NSW Cup
  • Some of our best talent has re-signed, Lehi, Koula, Haumole
  • Turbo and Jurbo have said they would never play for another NRL team and would happily take a pay cut to stay on. 2027 could be a big year of recruitment.
  • We have signed the halfback of the team currently leading the comp and I believe he is more consistent than our current halfback which will help our team be more consistent
  • We have recruited some of the best youngsters around that could prove fruitful in a few years; Walsh, the Larges, Zaidas, Hart all have big potential.
The only one that resonates with me out of this lot is Lehi coming back after the bye.

2027 is looking pretty good for us. We may even jag some mobile forwards with reasonable NRL experience, under 25 in 2026.

Tom was well below his best, but still ran 255 metres with the ball on the weekend.

Friday was a bad loss, but we also blew 3 or 4 try scoring opportunities, any of which could have turned the match.

Hopoate will be back next match.

This team needs a new on-field identity and that cannot happen without changing key personnel, which will finally start to happen next year.

We will most likely not win the wooden spoon, but it would not be a death knell for the club if we did. Five times this century a club has won a wooden spoon and followed it up with a premiership within the next 5 years, with a possible 6th to follow this year.

Sharks 2014 (2016)
Bulldogs 2022 (...?)

At least our defense coach got to celebrate the 95 GF victory with his bulldogs mates.

And hopefully getting the SACK
Not only does he not bring Manly DNA, but our defensive approach appears very outdated. It’s all fire and brimstone 1980s style, which makes no sense in this era. Defense is now about slowing play down and containment, not angry man bash ups like we seem to adopt in the first 20 minutes, then run out of gas. Our defensive mindset is all wrong - no willingness to get into the trenches for 80 minutes.
