Just thought I'd put this out there...

On average;

- A General Practioner can earn between 150-350k a year
- An engineer can average 150k a year
- An Sas Soldier upwards of 100k a year
- The prime minister of Australia earns 500k a year.....

Dce and Foz are being payed around 1.2 million a season!! This is just crazy for guys who play a sports game for a living and maybe play 30-34 games a season on average...

I will be lucky to earn that $$ in 60 years of working my arse off!!

Just a bit of perspective for when people question what some of these players "only" get offered....

Soccer players get 40 million - its whatever the market dictates@

Pretty sure that most AFL Players in first grade are 1.5 million

I think the big difference is a GP earns $200k ( with CPI increases) for maybe 30-35 years.

The average footy player might earn $150k for 10 years , with very few earning big dollars.

The GP can still walk at 50, most ex footy players can't!!

Firstly, not all footy players make that coin, only very few. Alot of player make stuff all, and continue to make nothing in there future life.

Difference is most GPs and engineers can get out of bed when they're 60.

I was not talking about the "average" player - I was referring to the "top" performing players earning these amounts... Well apparently the "top" performing.... Foz can't even get out of bed at 24! Haha

Let us not put too much tish on the Players...
How about the guy who created this nightmare ? (Rupert Murdoch)

I'm pretty sure thats not right. According to their own stats only 2 players earned over $1m last year and I'm guessing that would be Ablett and Franklin. However last season they had 78 players earning over $500k. Last season the average player wage in the AFL was $265k, the NRL based on the top 25 was around $250k.

And how much do they earn in the media after they've retired? In coaching, training and development roles?
They have a limited time to make ridiculous amounts of money and then the rest of their lives to make the same as everyone else. If they're unlucky.

But the players getting the big dollars are taking great chunks of the salary that sees other "team mates" leave. That is why we have this problem now. Our players in recent times have taken less to stay together as a group which in turn has united them but on the flip side you'll eventually end up with an aging roster.

Take away the TPA's, increase the cap but say 1mil so, a modest exemption for players who have been at one club for more than 5 years so all teams are on a level playing field. It's the only way the salary cap will work.

Maybe we should have a socialist system.

$6.55mil shared between 25 players = $262K per player.

I'm trying to organise a refurbishment of an ex footballers house as it has fallen into disrepair. He was never able to make big money and then struggled with sickness. He played nearly 200 games, winning a premiership and playing for NSW and Australia then coached and commentated. I have a gut feeling that he did not wasted his money just played in "wrong" era and then being sick over a long period.

Men of League are set up for helping out old Players

Cliffy played for the love of it too.

SL got more of the game's monies to the Players at least
