OPPOSITION Leader Kevin Rudd has acknowledged that his wife's company had underpaid some workers, but he has said it was an honest mistake she had sought to rectify.

WorkDirections Australia Pty Ltd, a subsidiary of Therese Rein's company, Ingeus, took over Victorian company Your Employment Solutions (YES) last year and transferred its workers over to her business.

The company has denied allegations that it unfairly stripped workers of significant award conditions, saying its pay arrangements with employees were "certainly not unlawful", and had not been designed to remove penalty rates, overtime or allowances.

C'mon fLIP, don't let the facts get in the way of a good bit of BS. She runs a company that grosses over $170M a year with over 8000 employees. Not a bad effort built from scratch. She took over a company in contract labour and they had misclassified workers which resulted in them being underpaid by her company. They have now been paid correctly.

The leak of priveleged info is also being investigated - that is where the criminality lies:

Federal police have been asked to investigate a leak of confidential information about a company owned by Labor Leader Kevin Rudd's wife.

The Bulletin magazine this week reported allegations that WorkDirections, an employment placement company owned by Therese Rein, had been investigated for potential fraud by the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR).

An unnamed DEWR investigator told the magazine that the department was compiling a dossier on WorkDirections and had launched at least six investigations in the past 12 months.

In a statement, DEWR spokesman Jeremy O'Sullivan denied any dossier existed and the leak appeared to be an unauthorised and unlawful disclosure of commonwealth information.

"The Department of Employment and Workplace Relations is investigating this matter, and is referring the matter to the Australian Federal Police, in accordance with relevant commonwealth guidelines," Mr O'Sullivan said.

But that was a fraction of the millions of dollars repaid by other employment services, including those run by the Salvation Army and the Wesley Mission, following an audit by DEWR.

Funny how Rudd's wife thinks that AWA's are good but Rudd doesn't.

It shows that Rudd and gillard are nothing but mouthpeices for the union movement.

Why isn't anyone bagging the unions for spending $25m of union menmbers funds on their advertising campaign for the election?

They weren't on AWAs, they were on common law contracts. This unerpayment is illegal under common law contracts, therefore the employees were repaid. However it is perfectly legal under AWAs, so if they were on them they wouldn't have a leg to stand on.

Kind of highlights how workchoices screws people IMO.

Oh yeah and union members have been paying voluntary levies for a couple of years now to fund the ad campaign. Some of us actually support the advertising campaign.
