Make Manly Great Again #Hasler2019
The late Ron Willey the man who lost our virginty finally and the only Manly Coach to go back to back 1972-1973

Frank Stanton 1976 and the legendary 1978 premierships. (78 the first premiership with out Fulton)

Bob Fulton 87 and 96. Bozo also won minor premierships in 83, 87,95,96 and 97 however 5 GFs for 2 premierships isn't that flash. Fulton probably had the most money to spend than any other coach.

Des Hasler 2008 the record winning 40 nil against salary cap cheats and 2011 premiers
Add to that the 2009 world club challenge a first for any manly coach. The only thing missing for Des is a minor premiership.

For mine you cannot go past Des he's rebuilt the club and that manly winning culture and has done in a time when financial resources are not a plenty as well as dealing with external distractions. I hope he can go back to back so the history books will remember him as manlys best.

Interesting side note

Bob Fulton has been involved in 5 of manlys 8 premierships and hasler is one behind with 4.

As the best technical coach my vote goes to TC. Not sure about his man-management skills though, Des would reign supreme in that area.

Hopefully our greatest of all time is yet to start, wouldn't that be great!

I can narrow it down to one of these guys

* Harold Johnston – 1947
* Ray Stehr – 1947–1948
* George Mullins – 1949
* Wally O'Connell – 1950–1952 and 1966–1967
* Roy Bull – 1953
* Ray Norman – 1954
* Pat Devery – 1955–1956
* Ken Arthurson – 1957–1961
* Ron Willey – 1962 and 1970–1974
* Tony Paskins – 1963
* Russell Pepperell – 1964–1965
* George Hunter – 1968–1969
* Frank Stanton – 1975–1979
* Allan Thomson – 1980
* Ray Ritchie – 1981–1982
* Bob Fulton – 1983–1988 and 1993–1999
* Alan Thompson – 1989
* Graham Lowe – 1990–1992
* Peter Sharp – 1999 and 2003¹
* Des Hasler – 2004–present

Seriously though I would have to say Arthurson by a mile.

A 57% win record in an era when the Premiership wasnt up for grabs, is just 2% behind Des, but 7 % behind Fulton.

Arthurson set the standard by taking us to the grand final in his first year and again in his third year.

Only missed the finals once and that was in 1960, and just missed out with 10 wins from our 18 matches. This was a strange year as we finished officially sixth but was only one win from the second placed Wests, who with Easts, Balmain and the Dogs all finished equal on 22 points when Manly next on 20.

Arko gave us the whiff of success and then delivered it by getting Fulton.

Peter Blunt is doing wonders for us a parramatta though. Fulton Bought stars Hasler has made them. So its Hasler for me.

I would have to say Ron Wiley followed by Arthurson. Wiley won us our first GF, and then went back to back. He set us up for our golden 70s run.

Not sue why people are quick to say Fulton brought stars and Des didn't.

Without Kennedy, Kite and Lyon Des has no premierships add to that a superstar in Menzies already in the team.

It's got to be Bozo.

Bozo won 2 premierships and a lot of minor premierships with 2 completely different teams. Des has won 2 GF and no premierships with basically the same crux to the team.

Des and Beaver we both trained at some point by Bozo and went to GF's under his guidance. One of these guys is now our coach.

Manly also had a few bad years in the 90's when Bozo wasn't at the club. When he came back things improved again. Money had nothing to do with it. In addition, in the 70's we probably had more money to play with as we were able to steal so many players. In the 80's and 90's (under Fulton) we had to compete with other clubs that now had money, plus a salary cap that limited our spending ability. Therefore Fulton didn't have the most money of all the coaches.

If Des were to win this year I would probably have to think again about who our best coach has been. However, at this time the maths even says that Bozo is better. He's won just as many GF's as Des but he has also taken us to more GF's, he won more minor premierships and easily more success, and this was with 2 different Manly squads.

Hasler best
Sharp worst.

Cant disagree with you, but I cannot split Lowe and Sharp.
Maybe we should have given then a low sharp blow to both of them.

can you tell me how you justify putting lowe and sharp in the same catergory.

Sharp never made the finals in all his years coaching both manly and the Northern eagles.

Under low we finished 4th 2 years in a row and failed to make the finals in 92. He also brought players to manly who would play a role in the success we had in the mid 90s

ridge and roberts for example.
