Win ugly

I have marvelled a number of times in the last couple of years at certain teams getting lucky, but tonight I realise you have to be good enough to take advantage of good luck.

Aku's winning smile was too much for the officials!

Every week the Knights turn up and compete, but they don't have the class to match it with the opposition.

A typical moment to sum up Newcastle's season, was the Sironen try. The Knights were well in the contest and defending stoutly, only for one simple lapse. It was just one player putting an arm out and grabbing and that's all it takes to swing a tight game...but this happens to them every week. They hang in and hang in and one lapse and the opposition get one up...

Danny Levi looks a good footballer. He throws some really nice passes from dummy half; crisp service on the ad line and a good dart.

Lots of heap of **** penalties on the back of atrocious conditions. A wins a win, the conditions suited Newcastle's negative play style. In the dry they get toweled up.

Who cares the bye next week and in the dry we are a different team.

The 6pm games a joke though. Regardless of the weather try making it to brookvale from the other side of Sydney after work on a Friday....

There are some major lessons to be learned from tonights game. Never play expansive football in the conditions we had tonight. Not enough running straight. Young Sirro showed how it should be done with his try and we needed more of that. Indiscipline was again an issue, too many penalties late in tackle counts did us no favours. The positives were our stout goal line defence. I think the 5 day turn around was telling as Drugcastle had 2 more days to recover and the conditions were most certainly a leveler tonight. It was an escape tonight and we will need to be a hell of a lot better in our next game against the Sharks.

Yeah we won ugly.
Not great watching.
But geez I love how this mob played for each other.
Keep it.
Build on it and I reckon that's what Baz will do going on what he said the other day.
A team that plays for each other is gold.
Go Manly.

Its hard to be dominant against any team playing in that much rain and mud.Happy to take those two points.

I still reckon , on a dry field 2pm - 3pm weekend start with 6 to 7 days turn around : Manly would have flogged the knights by 40+.
The wet and boggy conditions , with manly having such a short turn around narrowed the true gap between these 2 sides.

The team are starting to shed their '2005 skin' and sport their '2006 skin.' A year that really started to demonstrate that team's ability to 'win ugly.'

Who knows, maybe by Round 26 they will be showing off their '2008 skin.'
